Firewall blocking Internet: Symantec Outbound Connect V4Callout

Hi,

I installed Norton 360 5.0 one week ago on my computer, which runs Windows Vista. Ever since, the firewall of the product keeps blocking me from the Internet for extended periods of time, and it requires my computer to restart to get it working again. When I attempt to diagnose and repair the problems, it says there is a DNS error, due to the Filter Name: Symantec Outbound Connect V4 Callout. I've looked everywhere in the Help document for ways to fix this (the only option it gives me is For Windows 7, which I do not have), I've tried pretty much everything on Norton 360 that appears to be relevant to the problem and I've looked extensively on this forum.

I would like to figure out a way to keep running this product without completely disabling my firewall or rendering my Internet access nearly non-existent. Thanks!

Hi, mrazzy627, and welcome to our community. What you're experiencing is extremely rare, and unfortunately no one has been able to identify a cause yet. However, anecdotal reports suggest that you may be able to work around it by disabling automatic LiveUpdate and doing manual updates once a week or every few days (or daily, if you prefer) instead.

If you'd like to help Norton try to figure out what's causing this, for a very few--but very frustrated--other users, please see this thread, and post the answers to its questions back here.
