According to a recent post by a Norton Staffer (names in red) there is a problem in ZA which ZA are working on which interacts with Norton 2009.
I wonder if there is a way to switch from a N360 subscription to one for Norton Internet Security and get the NIS2009 which would provide the firewall. NIS is much more user configerable than N360.
Hi again, huwyngr
I know about the NAV2009 - ZA problems, because I started that thread ;-)
My concern now is about N360... or NIS2009. The point is: will NIS2009 recognise 2 Networks? Besides this, will NIS2009 be able to handle two separate Networks / Zones with separate security settings?
Furthermore, even if I have just one Network (which is not the case), is NIS2009 able to automatically configure which programs I want to allow to connect and where and exactly how (I mean, protocol and port) just asking me when the connection is requested? I apologize for not being aware of the NIS configuration capabilities.
Regarding N360, It didn't ask, because it was making its onw decisions. Of course you could modify the configuration, but it was really hard without having a deep knowledge ot the protocols insights (e.g. I got no idea about what means ICMP, IGMP, RawIP, PUP, GGP or RSVP)... It should be more like "allow sharing files" or "learn what do you have to allow/decline when I want to share files"... if you know what I mean.
If NIS is able to solve all these problems, I will follow your suggestion and request a license change, because it could be the solution for all my problems!!!!
You can edit Internet Access settings:
Settings>Firewall Protection
Thanx for your reply but, do you mean in Norton360 or NIS2009? If it is in NIS, do you know if it does support 2 Networks? Can I specify different rules for each Network? Regarding the configuration, could you please indicate to me where can I check the configuration features of NIS in order to understand what can I expect?
I know it is a lot of questions, sorry.
I don't have more than one network so I can't answer from personal experience. I'll flag your message for a Norton Staffer since you want to know about N360 and NIS2009. I would expect N360 to be more limited, like the way it won't back up to external drives from what I think I've read.
IMO you need a Norton Staffer on this since although NIS is much more flexible than N360 there may still be elements in NIS2009 that are not user settable.
Hang on for some help.
Hello Kalma,
You should try out a trial version of NIS 2009 and see if it meets the type of firewall control you are looking for. From the NIS Main User Interface, launch Settings in the Computer section, and select Advanced Settings in the Smart Firewall section. There are many more options here to customize your firewall settings. Let me know if these options assit you in what you're looking for.
