Hello.Ive just installed norton360 and when im going to my firewall program exclude tab and i press the add button so i can make an exclusion nothing happens.Nothing opens up and i cant exclude the program that i want.Any idea why this is happening?
Hi tm100,
I don't think that you need to worry about this. You can find numerious similar firewall tests in the Internet, which may mislead you by providing different results. If you want to check the security in your computer, try the authorized Online Security Scan from Symantec Web site itself.

Are you behind a hardware firewall? that could influence the results as well
Hi stu,
I'm not using any hardware firewall just norton's firewall. Are the default settings ok even though it failed this test.

tm100,
The default settings are set such a way that it should be able to block intrusions irrespective of the computer settings. So, you don't have to worry. But, if you still want to make sure, you can try the Online Security Scan from Symantec Web site.

Hi yogesh
I ran the security scan and it does not run properly in firefox and in IE7 I get prompted to run an active x and I still does not fully complete it just says antivirus is working it does'nt check the rest. Anyway I will leave the firewall settings the way they are. Thanks.

Oddly enough I don't have any problems with IE; it seems to do it only with Firefox. I don't know if it's compatible; It's a German program; and I like how it works; the odd thing is that it doesn't do it all the time. I visited the norton on line help and they changed the firewall option for the cookie manager exe from auto to allow but I still get the error message; so then I changed the firewall setting for firefox.exe from auto to allow; and that doesn't eliminate the error; I have been told that with vista one is supposed to use ie at the browser but I prefer firefox.
Hi gritzle70,
If the program works with IE, then it is almost certainly not a firewall issue, as that would affect all browsers. If you contact Maxa again, ask specfically if the product is compatible with FIrefox 4. I am guessing that it is not, and the following thread at Mozilla seems to indicate as much (Norton 360 is now compatible though, by the way):
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/803125
I use Firefox as my browser and Microsoft Vista home edition; I use a cookie manager program called Maxa Cookie Pro which I really like. I had this problem once before and changed my firewall settings but it has started up again and I can't figure out why unless it has to do with the firefox 4 browser patch.
The Maxa Cookie Pro error messags says:
Firefox is currently running. Due to unexpected behavior its cookies cannot be managed. Please close firefox and try again.
If this continues to happen please check whether you use firewall software that does not allow Firefox.exe to receive incoming connections
All of my firewall settings are on auto but I manually changed the settings to "allow" for both the cookie manager exe file and the firefox exe file but I am still getting the error message.
Does this have to do with the firefox 4 hot fix? Thanks
Hi, can I use Norton 360's fire wall 'program rules' to block the 'Search Conduit ' hijacker ;? I am hoping if I specify its address that Norton might be alerted to it in the future. I have had it twice even though I thought I was careful. Any comments would be appreciated, thanks.
Hello
I second the recommendation of visiting one of the malware removal sites.. Conduit often comes together with another download or update of a program. After reading the following article and what might happen if you try to remove what some scanners call a PUP, I would definitely not try to trick this malware or attempt to remove it on your own.
