Firewall slows down opening links and documents

Hi everyone,

I have been using NAV for a year or so and I was quite pleased with the performance, so I decided to try NIS 2010.

However, I am having some issues that seriously make me think I am better off with other product. The problem is the following:

  • In a Windows Explorer window, if I double-click a document to open it, it takes a long time to open. Say, it takes from 30-60 secs. I am sure it is not AutoProtect or a virus scan, since the only way to avoid the delay is to disable the Smart Firewall. If I open the same document from within an application, everything works fine.

  • If a click on a URL from within a mail or a document, then again, the system takes about 30-60 secs to open the link in the browser. Same as above, the problem goes away when disabling the Smart Firewall. Opening the link directly from within the browser there is no issue.

  • I like to use Google Desktop, with the same issues as above. If I open a document from within Google Desktop, it takes a long time to open. The problem goes away when disabling the Smart Firewall. Same behaviour as opening the document from Windows Explorer.

When the system is hanging, I have looked at the task manager, and nothing seems to be running (idle process is about 80%, other tasks seem normal). With the firewall disabled, documents and links open immediately.

Then again, I am sure it is the firewall causing the problem, since I have done several tests enabling/disabling the firewall and AutoProtect. I am not using any other antivirus or firewall product.

Any hints or ideas?

Thanks!
