Detailed description: Since a few weeks ago I have an issue with Norton IU. When I start the computer, every time it starts a loop where Norton IU takes the window focus and release it to the app I am using. It is so frustrating as I am not able to write a document or an email.
I have checked it with a program which shows the programs taking the window control. Below there is a snapshot of the command line.
@Fernandolero The larger question is why are you using Focus Monitor software, for a handicap issue or some other accessibility? Third party software is most likely your issue as its settings could be the immediate cause of what you are seeing.
Have you excluded the program itself ( Focus Monitor ) in Norton settings? Have you checked your Windows accessibility settings to match FM? TIA.
@SoulAsylum I used a Focus monitor software because I needed to find out which program is causing the focus in and out from the window I am working on.
I have 2 computers, a laptop computer Surface type and a tower PC. Both of them have installed the Norton 360 suite as I have a licence for 5 systems. With both computers I have the same issue.
The only way to avoid this annoying situation is open a window with the Norton IU and keep it open in the background.
Ahh ok, thanks for the feedback. Allow me to ask whether you are logged into or logged out of Norton via your Norton UI? If you are logged OUT try logging IN and restarting the device, let us know if that erases the issue.
Edit: The issue seems to be resolved for me after manually updating the Norton product.
Hello,
Thanks Fernando for reporting, I thought I was the only one experiencing this.
I can conform this behaviour 1:1. Once you log in and the Norton application has loaded, it will immediately start focussing and defocussing the current window roughly every second. When the Norton dashboard is opened by clicking its tray menu icon, the issue is gone – until you close the Norton window and it returns again.
@Fernandolero@twrschm Are you both logging into Windows with a “local” profile as an administrator, or, logging in with Microsoft credentials? Local accounts are not tied to having to have an internet connection to log into Windows vice using a MS login. Thinking a local account may make a difference, try creating a local account and restarting/retesting.
UI Version: 1.0.111 has been released to fix the issue of “Norton360 Makes Keyboard unusable - constantly grabs focus”. Please run Norton LiveUpdate and Restart the system to check if the fix is working.
I’ve had this issue again today, accompanied by high Norton cpu usage. Last cropped up maybe six weeks ago on both my PC and my wife’s. Ended up uninstalling Norton from my wife’s laptop as it was rendered unusable. Sent feedback to Norton from both PCs. Today a reboot seems to have fixed it. Thanks for the tip about opening a Norton window - I’ll try that if (when) this next occurs.
And after 2 hours the problem came back again… Opening the Norton360 UI improves matters but I’m not sure that it eliminates it. I now realise that I’ve had occasions over the last few months where I’m sure that I’ve typed a word correctly but it’s not appeared properly in the document - I think that this is related to this issue - the focus is briefly elsewhere but not to the extent that the PC is unusable.
Run the support tool from the link below. When completed please, DO NOT post ticket numbers back here on the thread, DO, keep that information in the event Norton contacts you here and requests it. This is the best way to get individual logs from each specific user to Norton and it will be tied directly to the e-mail address you provide.
Thank you for the tip on the support tool - I have run it during an occurrence of this problem.
Some further information - when this occurs, Norton Service>Norton Antivirus is high cpu (~25%). As soon as the Norton app window is displayed from the task bar/ system tray, the cpu usage drops and the problem ‘goes away’.
As per my previous post, I think that there may be two issues.
Norton is grabbing the focus when it shouldn’t - most of the time this is barely noticeable as it’s doing it for a very short time
Norton Service starts consuming high cpu when the Norton 360 window isn’t visible. This then causes the focus grab to be much more intrusive.
For me, it seems it has disappeared the focussing and defocussing issue. I am still having the 25.10.10528 Norton version. The only thing it is changed is the compilation. Now I have 25.10.10528.959 compilation. I do not know if this helps but I believe every information might be helpful.
Interesting. My name is ALSO Fernando and I am experiencing the exact same issue with focus on my Windows machine. I have to OPEN Norton Dashboard and then close it again every time the focus issue happens. I have the current UI and Program version listed here and it’s still happening.
This is probably a dead thread and not as alive as the other two on the focus issue. But still replying here to maintain sincere context.
Somehow this is resolved for me and I don’t know how. The only thing I know is I did the error log upload as one of the support guy reached out to me on my email. It took about 10-15 days since the upload, but it seems resolved now. Even my focusmonitor.exe is not showing any focus grabs from Norton UI anymore.
For everyone in this thread, Norton has posted that yet another version patch release is available that directly addresses the focus issues. As always, your mileage may vary. Please read:
