Is Norton Mobile Security the only version I can download to my iPad? Is it any different from the version installed on my Windows PC as far as features?
And on my phone, the NMS app says VPN doesn't need to connect because my network is secure. On my iPad, it doesn't seem to work that way and instead, I manually connect or disconnect. Does that sound normal?
Have you turned on the setting for Auto Connect VPN on the iPad?
It's an 8th generation iPad and has with OS 14.2. Auto Connect is turned on.
VPNs, by their nature, are going to slow your connection at least a little as all data in and out of your device is being encrypted and decrypted. So it depends on just how much slower your connection is as to whether it is a problem or not.
Some websites do block access from known VPN servers for legal/copyright/political reasons. There is nothing a user can do to get around this other than turning off the VPN when you visit those sites.
In the iOS version of NMS, from the main NMS screen, scroll down and tap on VPN. Then there is a setting for Auto-Connect VPN that should be on by default. How old is the iPad? If it is older and cannot update to iOS 10, you will not see the new version of NMS that includes the VPN.
And I uninstalled, reinstalled, opened it, and it was on page 3 as I would expect it to be. It was either a momentary issue when it wouldn't appear, or it was operator error and it's me that needed rebooting.
Nevertheless, it's where I want it to be. While I have your attention, do you see a noticeable lesser speed when VPN is connected? I am even blocked from opening some websites when VPN is connected and when I disconnect it, the sites open as they should. And on my phone, the NMS app says VPN doesn't need to connect because my network is secure. On my iPad, it doesn't seem to work that way and instead, I manually connect or disconnect. Does that sound normal?
If you had just installed the app, maybe it does require you to open the app from the app store to complete the installation. I'll try testing this and let you know.
EDIT
I just uninstalled and reinstalled NMS and did not open it from the app store app and the icon was on the home page already. So not really sure what you are seeing. But as long as it is working as it should, you are OK.
So I opened the app from the Apple store and it showed up as one of the “Home screen” apps. I dragged it to an empty place on page 1 and it’s now there for me to use. Quirky though workable.
Thanks again for your time and effort.
This is the icon you are looking for. If you do not see it, try uninstalling NMS and reinstalling again.
I’ve got 3 pages of icons and it isn’t on any. I’m checking with Norton via Twitter as you seem to agree there should be an icon. Thanks for your help!
Try swiping through your different home pages. Norton seems to like to install on the one that is furthest right from the main home page.
Thanks for the quick response. I suppose if the Mobile version is the only one I can install, the features included will have to suffice. On my Android phone, there's a visible icon for Norton Mobile Security. On my iPad, there is no icon. If I go to the Apple store, the app offers me to "open" it again. Shouldn't it already appear on my iPad as it does on my Android phone?
You can look at the features included when you search for the Norton Mobile Security, NMS, app in the Apple App Store app.
One thing to note, there is no malware protection in Norton Mobile Security on an IOS device. See this article from howtogeek . com for an explanation of why it is not necessary.

But the VPN feature that is in the PC version of Norton 360 is included in the latest NMS app for iOS.
