Although I've updated to NIS 2010 (17.1.0.19) and the latest Firefox (3.5.5), I'm still not seeing the toolbar (which works fine on Internet Explorer). This is on Windows XP.
Symptoms are interesting.
If I enable Norton Toolbar from Tools/Extensions/Norton Toolbar 4.0, it restarts Firefox as requested, but Firefox fails to launch a window. Once I kill the process and relaunch Firefox, Firefox's window does indeed launch, but where you'd expect the Norton toolbar, there is an empty horizontal bar about the right size. View/Toolbars does not show Norton toolbar.
If I then disable Norton Toolbar from Tools/Extensions/Norton Toolbar 4.0, it restarts Firefox as requested, this time smoothly (no need to kill it first). There is of course no Norton Toolbar, but there's also no extra line/bar where it would have gone.
Probably related: I've been struggling for months with this "must start Firefox twice" problem, not realizing until today that it was likely associated with Norton Toolbar. This occurred on Norton 2009 and Firefox 2.N and 3.0.X. Every time I launched Firefox after a reboot or a change in the Extensions, I had to kill Firefox and launch it a second time to get it to work.
This symptom only occurs on one of my two computers. The other one still has NIS 2009 and Firefox 3.0.X but never gave me "must launch Firefox twice problems.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is there some underlying setting in NIS that can be causing this? Thanks!
