I have been getting these errors as noticed in Event Viewer,
Event ID=16385, Source=Security-SPP, "Failed to schedule Software Protection service for re-start at 2117-07-03T03:30:17Z. Error Code: 0x80070002."
This gets created every 30 seconds, and when I checked the first instance of this, it's on 11-Jul-2017, the day I had some issue with Norton Security s/w and had sought help from Norton Support over Chat->Remote Access thru LogMeIn. Their rep did some things on IE-11 browser where I was getting virus/trojan alerts (which Norton Support claimed were false alerts) and they reset the browser to default settings and disabled all add-ons as well. They did the same with FF & Chrome as well. They also ran some program they downloaded from their own website to diagnose issues with my Windows setup as well as Norton installation, but seems it didn't find anything to fix. Now, since that day I have been getting these errors mentioned above, and am not sure if it's related to that troubleshooting activity by the Norton Support team. Subsequently when I asked them to fix it, they claim it's Windows related issue and not related to Norton products installed on my notebook.
I checked on several forums on this issue but none of them worked in my case, as I don't have the SoftwareProtectionPlatform task in Task Scheduler, nor the folder by that name in Windows folder (as per those posts).
If anyone has faced this issue please share your experience on how it got fixed. Thanks.
P.S.: Have noticed my system having become sluggish for the past few days, hence this post. As a last option, may have to install my OS afresh from the Recovery Partition (it's an HP Notebook, so has an Windows 8.1 64-Bit OS OEM license).
