Thank you for your input. My main concern was that the Ghost 10 files would not be compatable with Ghost 14. From what you wrote, it sounds like they are compatable and should recover without problems.
Thank you again!
Hello -
I need some advice on this situation:
I was using Ghost 10 to backup my older pc's drive to an external hard drive (that pc was running on XP). The old pc packed her bags and left me today without warning! I just purchased a replacement pc which has Vista. I know there are compatability issues with Vista and v10. Is there any way to restore with the version I have? If not, if I purchase Ghost 14, will it be able to restore my data using the v10 files?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
If the hardware was similar and you didn't care about the Vista, you could boot to the Ghost CD and restore your old image. However, that does not sound like this is the case. So, the way to get to your data would be to get a newer version of Norton Ghost (I would suggest 14 since it is the latest and 10 is not Vista compatible). Once the new Ghost is installed you can use the Recovery Point Browser to look at and recover files from your Ghost 10 backups.
You could also restore your v10 images to another partition or to a second drive if you wanted to have access to the whole 'old drive' as a data drive.
