Yeah was not really looking forward to re install NIS, NSW, symantec pcanywhere
Edit:
After using the removal tool and reinstalling same problem
What happens when you run the Fixinstall.bat located in C:\Program Files\Norton Ghost and then reboot?
Ran it, cmd showed some lines then closed it rebooted started ghost, same
with and without admin permissions
I get this error in the corner:
I also looked in windows services to see witch were running found 1 who was stopped, started it restarted ghost but no difference couldn't find any other processes.
What is the state of the Symantec SymSnap VSS Provider and SymSnapService? SymSnapService also needs to be started.
Either it's not there or I'm looking over it
Thanks! This shows me that somehow the SymSnap Service, which is essential to Ghost’s full functionality has some how got trashed or did not install properly. The first thing to do is to run the Seast utility found in c:\Program Files\Norton Ghost\Utility and select Gather Support Information. I will have someone contact you to make arrangements to upload the resulting file. Please tell me when it is uploaded.
HI all,
Well I bought Norton internet security 2008 premier edition :)
Great combo Internet security 2008 System works and ghost 12.
I've been using nis 2008 for almost a year 2009 will be released just before the end of my sub so bought a new one heard of the free upgrade so great :)
Anyway:
I installed works- works great no problem
I had norton ghost trial 14 installed- worked wonderful was really happy with it
So tried my norton ghost key 12, but he said no not a valid key so I de installed it and installed norton ghost supplied with premier,
install went fine update went fine then it asked me for a key - witch I gave, he didn't want it; so I selected Trial
after he went to the main screen and gave me a connection error: Can't connect to the agent - restarted pc 2 times didn't solve the problem
Any help would be appricated (I removed my computers name of the screen cap)
I'm using:
Windows Vista 32 bit
3 gieg ram
Intel centerino Duo core T7400
No other backup programs installed
Thank you a lot,
I used an other computer (twin) to install ghost, that one installed everything correct
so I created the windows services using that info + a bit of help from MS (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/251192/en-us)
now it works great it accepts my serial and makes back ups
Directly installed NIS 2009, wonderful release you really did it this year
I tried re creating the error - Install first NIS 2008, then symantec anywhere then norton system works and after that Ghost
tried it on 4 PC's 2 went fine, the other 2 got the error.
Installing system works after ghost solved the problem....

Saw the PM later then my figuring out so I will do the install this evening again and make a log for you :)
Well a Norton Ghost 12 key will not activate Ghost 14. This is one of the perhaps rare instances when perhaps using the Norton Removal Tool for Ghost 14 would have been appropriate as you intended to install earlier release. Unfortunately the NRT is not decerning enough, and using it would most likely also remove NIS 2008 ( I havent checked but suspect this is correct.).
There is another post from a user with similar but not the same issue. I am wondering whether the liveupdate catalog needs to be reset.
I suggest you wait for another guru on this.
