I tried backing up to my external drive as normal today using Ghost 12.0 and got a blue screen with the bad pool header message. I see a lot of issues with this when I Google it but I don't get any hits when I search this website....???
It starts to do the backup and then goes blue. What is happening?
I haven't installed any new software or hardware or changed drivers. The only thing that changed recently were the latest windows updates. I'm running XP.
Update:
After some sleuthing, I found that my Ghost has NOT been running the scheduled backups 3 times a week as I had initially set it up. It stopped the auto backups 4 months ago! Shame on me for not checking on it! About that time, I installed a bigger hard drive and used Acronis to clone my old drive to my new one. Here is a link to a website that explains how Acronis and Seagate's Seatools (by Acronis) causes a problem with Volume Shadow Copy. http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic94820.html
Also, I found a message that suggested I go to Device Manager, View and select 'Show hidden volumes'. Than select Storage Volumes and right click on each one and select Delete. Then reboot and the system will reinstall those volumes which had been corrupted by the cloning software. It worked and I've backed everything up.
What amazes me is that Symatecs has totally ignored this problem and does not have a single thing that can be found by their search engine. I had to search elsewhere to correct this. I can't be the only one with the problem. Through my searching I found a LOT of disgruntled people who have suffered through various iterations of Ghost as I have and no longer have any confidence in the product. Maybe this post will help others who finally come here looking for an answer to bad_pool_header after a hard drive cloning session.
