Hi,
I have a150GB WD (WDC WD1500ADFD-00NLR1) drive which is nearly out of space. Other than being low on space, it is perfectly healthy (to the best of my knowlege) and has performed as expected for over a year now. It is my C: drive and hosts my operating system (Vista Ultimate x64).
I have purchased a new 300GB WD (WDC WD3000GLFS-01F8U0) which I would like to use to replace the old drive. I have purchased Ghost 14 and had planned to use the Copy Disk feature to copy the contents of the old drive to the new drive. Also, I have read Chapter 15 "Copying a drive" of the Norton Ghost User Guide.
I have physically installed the new drive and it is visible in Disk Management.
I have tried the Ghost Copy Disk feature with options selected as specified in the User Guide. Specifically:
[ ] Check source file system for errors
[ ] Check destination file system for errors
[ ] Resize drive to fill unallocated space (this option is greyed out)
[x] Set drive active
[ ] Disable SmartSector copying
[ ] Ignore bad sectors during copy
Destination partition type: Primary
New Drive Letter:
Advanced Options:
[x] Copy MRB
The copy operation runs for about 45 minutes, then fails (at 99%). The following error is displayed:
-Error EC8F17B3: Cannot complete copying of RAPTOR1 (C:\) drive.
--Cannot copy source drive to destination location.
---Application unable to continue due to lack of memory.
---Cannot copy source drive to destination location.
----Application unable to continue due to lack of memory.
The following is recorded in the Windows Event Log:
Error EC8F17B3: Cannot complete copying of RAPTOR1 (C:\) drive. Error EC8F0409: Cannot copy source drive to destination location. Error EBAB00CC: Application unable to continue due to lack of memory.
Details: 0xEBAB00CC
Source: Norton Ghost
Xml View of the error details:
After closing the error window, the new drive is no-longer displayed in the Ghost drives list. It is displayed in the Disk Mangement screen, however the volume name is blank and the File System type is reported as blank.
I have tried a number of things to try to resolve this such as rebooting my system, formatting the new hard drive (both quick and full format's) and selecting many different combinations of Ghost Copy Disk options. Each attempt ends in the same error message.
I have searched these forums and found posts from people with similar issues. I've tried the solutions outlined in those posts with success.
Oh, one last point, Windows Task Manager reports I am using 2.92GB (of 8GB installed) when the error occurs, so I don't think I'm out of memory.
How should I proceed?
Thanks for your help,
Mike
