I tried to reply to several other threads on essentially the same subject, but they've apparently been closed to further posting. The subject: Removal of the ability to clone a drive with v14 of Ghost.
Like others, I found the need to move an XP install to a larger drive. I'd been using Ghost for years, (but not recently), so when the need arose, I didn't think twice about going to the Symantec site and buying it. Admittedly, I didn't read much about it -- why would I doubt that it was the tool to use?
Boy, was I surprised! "Copy drive" was the only option. No more Clone. No, for that you need to buy 5 seats of the Enterprise version for $30/each or whatever. Not likely. In less time that it took to read this, I downloaded not one, but two tiny freeware apps, installed them, tried each out and was on my way to expanding my hard drive.
In the other thread by lutzd, Tony Weiss describes this as an "advanced feature, which Backup Exec System Recovery Product (Enterprise edition) would be able to provide" Last time I looked, that was $800+! I would respectfully disagree with his assessment that cloning a drive to another with more capacity is an "advanced feature".
As for the other backup features that Ghost provides--I don't need, and in fact, use Backup Exec for Windows Servers.
Never the less, I'm very disappointed in my ill-researched purchased, and will not likely buy any more products from Symantec, unless there are no other options.
