Thanks for the post, I now have the files the support technicans collected.
So, a quick question how did you get in this state? E.G. did you have another product previously installed? If so, what happened next? If not, did anything happen during the install?
Also, I would like you to verify that symsnap.sys exists in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers directory. If so, please goto a command prompt and run the fixinstall.bat found in the C:\Program Files\Norton Ghost directory. Then reboot your machine. Does this solve the problem?
Johan,
Thank you for responding.
The installation was brand new, this product has was not previously installed. I went to the symantec support site and found the reg fix and the symsnap.sys exist.
This is when I contacted support and they uninstalled the application 4 times, between 2 techs and the last one took the logs.
I then found this board and posted my problem.
Most interesting, a clean fresh install. That is what testing most often uses here. What hardware are you running on?
Good, the symsnap.sys is there. As to the support page you refer to, I realize that it has issues. I'm in the process of gathering information to correct it, but that will take some time. How did the FixInstall.bat turn out?
Its very odd, but I was doing to research and some folks had similar problems but no resolutions.
It has a NVidia Quad Card for the 4 monitors could this be causing a problem?
I tried all the fixes on the site with negative results.
No, while conceivable that the NVidia Quad Card could cause an issue, video drivers haven't generally been an issue.
The fixinstall.bat is not mentioned on the site. You have to go to a command prompt and run the fixinstall.bat found in the C:\Program Files\Norton Ghost directory. Then reboot your machine.
Installed a brand new copy of Norton Ghost 14 on a Windows XP with SP2 and ran live update and rebooted.
While trying to run a job, I get the following error;
"This operation cannot be performed while Windows is running. You must complete this operation inside the recovery environment"
Found this solution http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/powerquest.nsf/0/7154f08552eef46265257401006f6a55?OpenDocument
It didn't work.
Contacted Support, and spent 6hrs with 2 techs, they uninstalled and reinstalled, turn off all the services and still were unable to get to program to run. They took logs files using the Norton utilities to their developers to see what the solution was. Yet to hear back from them or anyone on this case.
I see that a lot of people have had the same problem, but I yet to see any posting saying that there was a fix.
Has anyone finally gotten a resolution?
Please advice!!
Sorry, I had a "Senior Tech" work on the machine just now. and after a few tries and no success he gather more logs.
I ran the fixinstall.bat and it still give the same error.
This is very frustrating, since it appears it should be a simple install and so far no one has been able to figured out why its not working.
Hello mrbandit, I also had this problem and could not create a backup so I reinstalled Ghost 14 but stopped it from running LIVEUPDATE or the README FILE and sure enought it created a backup first time. ( I also have an Nvidia Graphics system).
Not sure if this will help but try it.
OK guys, I've got a real curious question here. Several times I've seen the advice to install Ghost 14 but not let it LiveUpdate to solve a particular problem like this one. We are trying to reproduce this problem but have not been able to do it yet. So, when you install from scratch what is the version number you are seeing for Ghost (Help | About)? The number is in the format 14.0.x.xxxxx.
Also, if someone who has used LiveUpdate and has run into problems after the update, what is the reported version number after the update?
We would really like to pin this one down and get it fixed! Any help or insights would be appreciated!
Its current version after live update is version 14.0.0.24815
Iām with Ghost and have not seen this. I will send a query from my direction and see if we can get the Seast files they grabbed and get someone to look at them.
