Running LiveUpdate on my newly upgraded Norton Ghost 15 gets the following message:
LU1812: A program that was part of this update failed when it ran. This update was not applied. Click here for more information on this error
Looking at Log.LiveUpdate shows: Whats wierd is that apparently this is a Ghost 14 update....
1/11/2011, 23:58:31 GMT -> EVENT - PRODUCT UPDATE FAILED EVENT - Update available for Norton Ghost - 14.0.3.28361 - English. Update for Updates takes product from update 0 to 20090811. . I would try to uninstall Live Update then reinstall it.
Ok - I can see how tu uninstall using control panel add/remove programs. But how do I re-install. Note that I also use Norton Internet Security, which sems to have its own live update.
Live update seems to install automatically with each product.
BTW, what version of NIS are you using? If you are using NIS 2009 and above, it has its own LiveUpdate which will update the components that are specific to NIS alone. Uninstalling and reinstalling LiveUpdate for ghost should not interfere with this.
I uninstalled LiveUpdate through the control panel. Apparently Ghost is an older product, usiing older technology. The current version of NIS uses a differnt update strategy.
I 'hid" the files located at
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate
Most of the files were removed by the uninstall, but I put two leftover files:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Product.Inventory.LiveUpdate C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Settings.LiveUpdate
into a sub-directory called "old" - just to keep them out of the picture
I installed liveupdate from the location listed in the posting above.
Live update now worked, but it didn't know about Ghost (even though it was started from Ghost)
I re-installed Ghost from the CD, using the choice to repair the current install.
Live update now updates itself, and Ghost. Which is exactly correct.
Along the way, many reboots at each step - an excersize for the reader.
