I have a problem which has been discussed in many threads here, but none of the solutions is working.
Norton Ghost 15 has been making 4 backups a day on schedule for several months on my WIndows 7
PC. For about a month now, it bascially doesn't work on schedule. I can make a backup manually, and I
sometimes find that a scheduled backup has been made (sometimes at the scheduled time, sometime
not), but mostly the backups just don't happen. I have sat at the PC at the appointed time with the task
manager running and saw no hint of activity related to Ghost.
Here's a history of what I have tried to do about this problem:
1. Encountered an actual error message; Norton chat technician said it was from a bad sector on the drive
being copied. I ran chkdsk c: /f /r /x to clean it up; I also checked "Ignore bad sectors during copy" in the
Options/Advanced section. Didn't fix schedule problem.
2. Reinstalled Ghost as follows: run Norton Removal Tool, reboot, run RegVac registry cleaner, reboot, run chkdsk
c: /f /r /x, reinstall Ghost from CD-ROM, run LiveUpdate twice. Didn't fix schedule problem.
3. Tried first solution found on community.norton.com: delete *.pq* files from AppData folder and set up schedule
again. This bolluxed the program so much that I had to repeat #2 above.
4. Tried second solution found on community.norton.com: unclick "Monitor disk space usage for backup storage" selection in Settings section of "Manage Backup Destinations" task. Didn't fix schedule problem.
5. Tried third solution found on community.norton.com: ran SmeDump.exe and PartInfo.exe in Norton Ghost Utilities folder. Partinfo.exe gave essentially zero output - here it is in full:
"Getting partition info from all drives
Partition information for drive 0
Partition information for drive 1"
SmeDump produced a long output stream which showed no obvious references to faults or errors.
At this point, I have run out of ideas. WHat do I do?
Thanks.
