Ghost 15

Hi Guys

Any news on Ghost 15?

Any day now. I may have an update very very soon. Possibly tomorrow…

Great! I’ve been eagerly awaiting this. NG15 is an amazing product, I’ve got a spare 500GB on my HDD partitioned  for backups, (don’t need all that though). I run a scheduled incremental backup every 8 hours - it’s rescued me several times.

That’s great news indeed. I loved testing Ghost

CNN reported a few hours ago that Norton Ghost 15 has just been officially released, and gave it a great write up. Dave Cole is quoted in the article discussing the products new features. You can read the full story HERE, and the Symantec Press Release HERE.

Tony --

Has someone picked up in the GHOST 15 threads that I think it was a UK user downloaded it but the installer was GHOST 14?

And that people are having more than difficulty in removing the protected download feature from the shopping cart?

It's not difficult to remove the Protected Download feature; it's impossible (so far).

However, there may be a reason for that in that if you buy the download only version of GHOST v15, and you lose your install disk, you have no way of restoring an image WITHOUT starting the PC / Windows that GHOST is installed on.  The installation disk is also a Symantec Recovery Disk to load / move a recovery backup to a non bootable hard drive.  With the service, one would only need to download one's purchased program again, burn the ISO to disk and boot from it.  With the service they can be rescued; without it, they are hosed.

Would have been nice if Symantec had just raised the price and then included this service for free (Protected Download, that is).  Probably would have been less hassle from users over the increased price than the "I can't get rid of this forced purchase" annoyance.

I did say "more than difficullt" since some posts have claimed a devious way and I'm not going to verify this.

Is there no GHOST equivalent of the free (other) NRT -- the Norton Recovery  Tool that is available for download for people who want to make the bootable disk (or thumbdrive these days)?

That is a question since I don't use GHOST.

Actually the Norton Recovery Tool is free to download but not free to use (it must be activated with the user's license, either read from the hard drive or input by the user manually).

GHOST, on the other hand, is there to make backups and images of your hard drive; and then let you copy that data to whatever you would like (you can make an Emergency Recovery Disk from the install CD and your backup data; this could be put on a DVD and booted to to restore your harddrive in the case of a corrupt file table).  However, that particular disk is only good for that data set.  You could copy the install CD or burn a different on off the download ISO image.  Somewhere I'm sure the license is buried in the CD / program code so the user may have to verify that everytime they used the bootable disk function.

As a side note, GHOST v15 does have a AV scan function and will use the latest Intelligent Updater to get the latest definitions.  It then scans the back up / disk before applying the data to a hard drive.

Ah -- here's what disappeared from posting as I closed out just now ....

Have a look at Can't get ISO file.  and let's see what he replies after he added it seems alright now

Alrighty, I have Ghost available now. If you’re interested, please email me at Tony_Weiss@Symantec.com and I’ll send you a key and the downloads. Thanks!

Thanks Tony.

Found it. You are the best

Stu, did you have a chance to use Copy my Hard Drive? What do you think about the UserGuide instructions on the preparation of the new HD prior to the clone? The UserGuide says, "The new hard drive does not need to be formatted".

I didn’t use the userguide. I will ahev a look

How do I use the computer back up from my laptop in Ghost on to my PC ?
How do you know what files to transfer/download onto my PC ?
I am very confused re how to do this ??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Data636,
What choices have you made so far?

Ok the windows drive in use is 111gb ,I want to copy it to a 1TB drive BOTH sata.

I went to Copy my Hard Drive.....I checked show hidden drives.  I want BOTH "system Reserved" and the contents  of C; (system drive).

But I can select only one of them.

Can you image them individually? Even if you could select both you would still get 2 images (recovery points).

Edit... I missed you want to use Copy Drive. Yes, you must copy them individually.

It deleats the previos copy..

EX I coped the system reserve.....

NOW I goback thd coty C:  but it reformats /erases the "sytstem reserve ...
