Ghost 2003 (in DOS mode) "Divide overflow" error when using 1TB USB drive

I've been using Ghost 2003 with great success in DOS mode (on a bootable CD) for many years to make partition-to-partition images of successive laptops, to successively larger and larger external USB hard drives - 120GB, 350GB and 500GB, until today I wanted to make a backup onto a partitioned 1TB Lacie.

When Ghost starts and the familiar blue background appears, but before any of the options can be chosen, "Divide Overflow" appear and I am back at the DOS prompt.

I tried various ways of partitioning the USB drive, to ensure that it was not the size of the partitions (partitioned it in bits smaller than 150GB), or even the size of the "visible" drive (made the uppermost 600GB unallocated), but that made no difference.

Is this is known limitation of Ghost 2003? If so, what is the best alternative?

Many thanks in anticipation.
