I am an 80% computer literate..this one as me in 4th and long.

Needed to copy a hardrive so I pulled an unused (still in the srinkwrap) copy of Norton Ghost 2003 and installed it.

I am using Windows XP and Norton 360.

I then rebooted and then updated everything.

Then I attempted to run Ghost and it locked up on the first screen.

Now my computer boots to Ghost on a :C Dos prompt.

I can not get back to Windows to remove it.

After an hour with Symantec support I now know...

1) There are issues with this version of Ghost and my 360..

2) This version of Ghost partitions off a section of the C drive....and that is what the computer is booting to.

3) I tried (there were several) of the procedures on the Symantec site...no of which I could make work.

4) Beyond those procedures....there is nothing else Symantec can or will do.

HELP!

It would appear getting back to Windows would allow me to remove the Ghost (with the Norton Removal Tool).

Any ideas on how to make that happen...or is there a better why?

DOUBLE HELP!

the easiest thing would to have been to boot to a dos and run ghost 2003 from there.  That way 360 wouldn't be seen, just like any other program.

But that won't help you now.  You could use the removal tool to get back, but that will remove the 360 program also.

Can you boot to safe mode?

If you are in ghost on a dos screen, just run it from there.  Ghost will see the drives and be able to copy or whatever from there.  Simply don't copy the partition that ghost is on to the new drive.

If you can get to the config.sys program in the root directory (since you are in dos), you can change the boot partition to the windows partition.

Can you log on to both drive partitions?

The ghost original disk should be bootable, have you tried that?
