Am attempting to run a restore in recovery environment with Ghost 2003. When attempting to boot from CD, I turn on the computer and when prompted to press any key I do so. I am now in DOS 7.1 Startup Menu. Where do I go from there?
Edit- hold on a sec, I thought you were stuck in the ghost partition
I thought it would load automatically.
have you tried typing ghost.exe?
Dave
I thought it would load automaticly too but it doesn't, instead it goes goes into DOS. Do you mean to type ghost.exe at the DOS promt, if so, then I get "Bad command or file name" in responce
Make sure you have the correct path set in autoexec.bat.
How do I do this
I can't find my Ghost 2003 disk, I know I have one here somewhere.
When you boot the CD, choose the option to load the CD-Rom drivers.
Then when you get to a DOS prompt type: dir
That will show you a list of all the files, if you see one called "mouse.com" type mouse.com and push the enter key.
Then look for the ghost.exe file, on some of the older versions it is called ghostpe.exe
Type whatever name you see and press enter.
If for some reason you don't see ghost, you need to change to the CD and look for it there.
When the CD-Rom driver loaded it should have listed what letter it was assigned.
If it said E, you can change to the E drive by typing; E:
and then type dir again.
Let me look for my disk,
Dave
Can you post the text in autoexec.bat
I found my disk.
I guess I never used the actual CD before, I always created my own with MSDOS.
Your right, it doesn't start automatically, thats pretty lame.
Choose the option to boot with any of the drivers (Just not with no drivers, choose CD-Rom drivers if you don't need USB or firewire support)
Note the letter assigned to the CD-Rom drive, I will use E but you may need to substitute a different letter.
At the A prompt, type the following pressing <Enter> after each line:
mouse
E:
cd support
ghost.exe
The gost executable is in the "support" folder on the CD.
Dave
I typed the mouse.com, nothing resembling ghost showed up. I changed the CD to Ghost 9.0, retyped mouse.com, received message "Invalid device request parameters reading drive I"
Brian, it's using PC-DOS. Here is the autoexec:
@echo off
MOUSE.COM
if "%CONFIG%" == "NONE" goto EOF
LH \MSCDEX.EXE /D:cd1 /D:cd2
if "%CONFIG%" == "CD" goto EOF
GUEST
:EOF
It loads guest.exe but not ghost?
the config.sys just loads the different drivers.
Dave
I do not see a letter assigned to the CD drive. I do see a message saying "Device driver not found: 'CD2'
If you missed my other post, go back to message #9
I guess you can skip the mouse, the autoexec load it for you.
But you need to change to the CD drive and then enter the "support" folder.
Note, thats using your Ghost 2003 CD
If you want to use your Ghost 9 disk it's going to be different
Dave
There is also a line that says "Drive C = Driver CD1 unit 0"
ldvs wrote:I do not see a letter assigned to the CD drive. I do see a message saying "Device driver not found: 'CD2'
It tries to load a bunch of CD-Rom drivers and a lot of them will fail
But when it gets to the A prompt, the line just above it should show the drive letter of the CD-Rom.
If you boot a system that has all NTFS drives it will be letter C:
Dave
I'm lost. Which CD is being used? I saw you mention Ghost 9.0
ldvs wrote:There is also a line that says "Drive C = Driver CD1 unit 0"
Yes, thats it. All you other drives must be NTFS.
Type the following:
C:
cd support
ghost.exe
Brian, we were talking about the Ghost 2003 installation disk.
But I guess he has Ghost 9 as well
Dave
Dave, I tried this , after entering the ghost.exe I am right back at an A: prompt
It worked for me
when your inside the C:\support folder you may want to type dir
and see if ghost.exe is in there or if it's ghostpe.exe
Or since you said you had a Ghost 9 CD as well, here is how to restore a ghost 2003 image from the Ghost 9 disk.
When the CD loads up all the way click "Advanced Recovery Tasks" and then "Utilities" then select "Restore Legacy Ghost Image"
Dave
Dave, I am having no luck at all with the Ghost 2003 CD, I am going to try your suggestion on using the 9.0 CD. Will this work even though the backup was was done with Ghost 2003?
