Google Blocked Access, NS & FW Disabled, Renew Subscription Message...

Hello,

I logged in today (to my Win 8.1 x64 notebook with wireless Internet) to find,

  1. Google blocked Internet access, reporting something like the appearance of robotic requests from my computer,
  2. 9 week old Norton Security (NS) 2015 disabled, including its firewall,
  3. Could not start NS 2015, instead received Renew subscription window,
  4. After first re-install, while connected to Internet, USB stopped functioning (including USB modem) and computer eventually hung.

I found that the active NS 2015 was installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Security\Norton Security\..."   instead of just "C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Security\..." (I would not have requested the iterative path name when originally installing).A duplicate folder structure was in place in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Security\..." but not the executables etc.

I reset the modem, uninstalled, removed "C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Security\..." and re-installed using Restart and the latest Fix-It Utilities Registry Fixer. Re-install does not re-request a subscription key, presumably it remained in a registry entry.

NS 2015 and firewall now appear to be working again, I re-connected to the Internet and ran LiveUpdate repeatedly until no new updates appeared. I then ran,

  1. Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, Full Scan,
  2. NS 2015 Full Scan, and individual Drive Scans.

NS 2015 Full Scan however begins at about 3,000,000 files (reporting them immediately as scanned) and also on the file history drive, apparently skipping the Windows partition etc. Hence I ran the NS 2015 individual drive scans to force access. No threats were detected by any of these scans.

NS 2015 always requests Internet connection in order to run a "comprehensive" scan (to check for updates ?, more ?), but will allow a scan to proceed without Internet access, calling this a "limited" scan (I am limiting Internet connection until I understand what is happening).

 My questions are,

  1. How can I completely remove NS 2015 so that, e.g., a re-install re-requests a subscription key ?
  2. Why does NS 2015 skip partitions when running a Full Scan (I do not recall ever seeing this before) ?
  3. Why does it request an Internet connection for a "comprehensive" scan ?
  4. This looks like a virus/threat to me, particularly considering the Google block, what else would be recommended, a Spybot scan ?

 Thank you.
