Hi Kiwikid1298,
Welcome to Norton Community!
You can try to download and run Norton Power Eraser tool :
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/DIY/index.jsp
Go for Rootkit Scan and Restart the computer. Check if it detects any threats and if it does, please provide us the filename and other details.

The term "Google redirect virus" is a description of symptoms rather than an actual virus, or even an infection. Quite a few things cause redirects, not all of them malicious. Some adware apps cause the problem, but Norton products are targeted toward malicious items rather than nuisance items. In this case, Malwarebytes or SAS does a good job. Sometimes it is nothing more than resetting your router, clearing your internet history, or uninstalling toolbars.
The termis also used to describe symptoms of a rootkit/bootkit, which downloads other malware and causes the problem you speak of. Sometimes a freeware application involving more specialized tools is required to solve the issue. Again, that is not uncommon. Sometimes freeware apps remove the other malware and fail to find the rootkit.
Your information would be most helpful if you included the name of the freeware application you used and what it actually did to solve the redirects.
Sorry continuing last post, My question is "why did Norton 360 not detect this malware as the other programmes did" It updates each time i turn on my computer,
Thanks

Hi,
Thursday morning my redirected problems started. I did a quick scam but all it found were tracking cookies. It didn't help. I did a full scan but that didn't help either. So I shut down the computer and went to work. Thursday night, no internet access. I don't think it was related. Friday morning internet access is back. Today I'm trying to find a solution on Norton support and it brought me to NPE. Ran it and it found nothing, so I started reading the forum and found that other people have had a similar problem.
It looks like the solution is a multi step process and is beyond my capabilities, so I'm here asking for help.
Thanks,
Jim
