I am not that knowledgeable so please excuse me if I use incorrect terminology in this reply.
Last night I purchased & downloaded Norton 360 for the first time. I had been using Norton Internet Security for many years. I also now have these little green boxes with check marks in them like Sean questioned, superimposed, for lack of a better description, on top of my desktop icons on the lower left corner. There are a few that have a blue box with 2 marks like this >> inside the box. these are all icons for internet links - they are not on program icons nor are they on the "folders" that contact many different links. I don't know what part of the new program is causing them to appear but I would like to know as I would prefer to remove these marks as they are practically covering the icons making them hard to see clearly. Do you have any idea why they are and can they be removed?? I do not have or know what the Mozy mentioned in other replies is.
Thank you for any help in regards to this inquiry.

Thank you for your reply and all of the great info on what these icons mean.
I am attempting to do what you suggested but for whatever reason nothing on 360 is working today. When I go to the backup choice under settings it does nothing but keep trying to It says I have 4 issues to fix but the fix button does nothing but tell me there are scans running and I have to wait. I have been trying for hours to no avail. I can't even always get the program to open. I have restarted my computer several times also to no avail or changes. I left the computer on and figured that after a few hours maybe the scans would be finished and try to use the fix again but i get the same message. I am unable to check mark the Phishing filter or the Identity safe either and they are the only 2 items unchecked. I also had set it yesterday to not require a password but start up without one but it is asking me for my password anyway.
I am frustrated and I think I made a mistake getting this software. I should have stayed with the Norton Internet Security which worked much better and was easier to use.
Is it normal to have so much trouble when this program first gets installed?? This just stinks!!!
Do not use the Norton Removal Tool if you have any other Norton applications installed that you want to keep. It removes all Norton applications and gives you no choice so it really is for “last resort” use.

<< I am frustrated and I think I made a mistake getting this software. I should have stayed with the Norton Internet Security which worked much better and was easier to use. >>
If you recently bought Norton 360 Symantec give a 60 day warranty so yuo can return it for a full refund and then buy Norton Internet Security.
N360 is intended mostly for the "fix and forget" user who also needs the very simple backup facility and other features in N360 that are not in Norton Internet Security. Note also that N360 has not yet been updated to use the new technology that is in NIS and NAV 2009 versions.
NIS is more flexible and "tweakable" than N360 and probably has more security features apart from the improvements in the new technology that give better security with less imposition on your system.
Thanks for the advice. I did as you suggested and used the removal tool and I did the re-install and is is still not working properly. It is telling me I have 4 problems but the "fix" does nothing.
At this point I am giving up. I don't have the time and the knowledge to deal with this.
I want to get rid of this software and go back to Norton Internet Security.
Wish me luck and thanks again for all of your help.
Thanks for all the info. I did the un-install and re-install twice and it still doesn't work so I am going to return this software and go back to the Internet Security - which I should have stayed with in the first place. I just hope when is get it it installs properly after all of this..............
I should have remembered the old adage "if it ain't broke - don't fix it" and just renewed my subscription.
I thought is would get more from the 360 than just a headache!!
Some people do have problems with installing NIS2009 after removing another security program so you may want to check back here for advice – or if you have no other Norton applications installed to use the Norton Removal Tool which is designed to do a real clean up but which removes all Norton applications – no choices by the user!!

Well, you were absolutely correct. I would have checked back for advice except I could not get online!!!!!
I cannot possibly describe all seven hours of torture and misery I went through today to get this computer and software running.
One of the only things I think I did right was get the third Symantec tech I worked with today (not including my ISP provider tech) download an additional browser other than IE to my computer as I was so in fear that I when she restarted my computer again I would lose my ability to go on line as I had most of the day.
I think our computer somehow want to "put us in our place" by showing us that:
We can live without food or water for seven hours but we can't live without our computer
We don't know as much as we think - or hope we do
We are just a slave to our technology
We are going to be having nightmares about this tonight
We are going to be having a very bad hair day tomorrow but we still have to go to work even though we have torn our hair out trying to fix the computer
We try to explain to the rest of the family that no we cannot do anything today until this is resolved even when they threaten us that they will no longer speak to us
Wish me luck - I hope when I shut this thing off tonight it will start again tomorrow and that my family forgives me................
