Green check marks

What has happened to the green safe web checkmarks

Hello @MRS_KATHY_EVANS
Are you referring to Norton Safe Web search results checkmarks?

Why the Icons Disappeared
The visual search indicators (green checkmarks, red X’s) from Norton Safe Web have disappeared from third-party search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing due to a policy change, where the standalone Norton Safe Web extension no longer supports site ratings outside of Norton’s own search engine.

  • Forced Shift to Norton Search: Norton updated its policy, meaning the standard “Norton Safe Web” browser extension has stopped providing safety annotations for third-party search results.
  • Exclusive Search Feature: To see site ratings, you are now required to use the Norton Safe Search extension or use the search.norton.com site directly.
  • Ad Blocker Interference: Reports indicate that ad-blocking extensions (like Adblock Plus) can interfere with the icons, requiring users to disable them to see the rating icons, even with the Norton extension.

How to Get the Icons Back

  1. Install Norton Safe Search: Install the “Norton Safe Search” extension (different from the Safe Web extension) on Google Chrome.
  2. Use search.norton.com: Set your search engine or homepage to search.norton.com.
  3. Disable Ad Blockers: If you are still not seeing them in Norton Safe Search, temporarily disable ad-blocking extensions to check if they are the cause.

Alternative
If you do not want to switch to Norton’s search engine, some users have recommended Bitdefender TrafficLight as an alternative to get visual safety ratings on Google/Bing.

Thank you for your response. I do have Norton Safe Search installed along with Firefox but I still do not get the green check marks.

Oh okay…give me a moment to check Firefox

Edit: Yeah, you’re correct. I’m not seeing Safe Web indicators in Firefox…at this time.

Caveat: Firefox is not my daily rider

Thanks for your help

Waiting for Norton to issue a patch is a reasonable next step, as Firefox 150.0 (released April 21, 2026) introduced a specific change that directly impacts how extensions render icons.

Why Norton’s Icons Are Missing in Firefox 150
The primary reason you don’t see even grayed-out icons is likely a technical shift in how Firefox handles extension visuals:

  • Deprecated CSS Filters: Firefox 150 officially deprecated built-in CSS filters for WebExtensions. If the Norton Safe Search extension relied on these internal Firefox filters to display its color-coded rating icons, the browser will no longer render them at all.
  • Shift to Native SVG: Firefox now requires extensions to use native SVG media queries for their icons. Because Bitdefender TrafficLight likely uses a more modern SVG-based approach, it remains unaffected while Norton’s older rendering method fails.
  • Massive Security Update: Firefox 150 also fixed 271 security vulnerabilities. These hardened protections include stricter rules for how extensions can “inject” content into webpages, which may be blocking Norton’s annotation scripts as a precaution.

Thanks for checking into the Firefox update issue on Apr 21, which impacted the green checkmarks. That information kept me from breaking something else trying to fix it. I thought about reinstalling Norton 360, so I am assuming that that’s been tried and won’t work either.

Hello @NW_User
Your issue is with Norton Safe Search green checkmarks?
Norton 360 client…as far as I’m aware… has no affect on Norton Safe Search search results annotations.
Did you try clean re-install Norton Safe Search extension?
Are you Firefox 150.0.1?

=============================================

Edit 1:
and now I’m not seeing Norton Safe Search checkmarks

============================================

Edit 2:
and now after Norton Safe Search clean re-install

call https://search.norton.com/protect from Firefox to install Norton extensions

============================================

Maybe, Norton Safe Search requires re-install → re-acceptance…after Firefox update (150.0.1)

I used your suggestion to reinstall the Norton extensions. I removed all three Norton Extensions located in the Firefox Settings for Extensions and Themes (the 3-dots for each extension to remove). Then I open Norton, and under Security, I selected the Browser Extensions and installed from there. Opened Firefox and checked the “Allow us to collect usage data” as requested. Worked like a charm. The green checkmarks are back. Thank you!
