Guide for what to do before installing Norton

This guide is for folks who have bought their PC or laptop from the shops and want to install a Norton Internet Security or Norton Antivirus for Windows Vista or Windows

this not for tech savvy of course :)

1. Don't connect to internet

Do not hook your computer up to the internet straight away because your computer will be unprotected from malware.

2. Uninstall Security Programs

Uninstall realtime security programs that you won't use, this will prevent conflicts with NIS/NAVand it saves a bit of disk space.  Some security vendors have removal Tools for their products, use this after removing the products from the 'Unistall a Program' section in the 'Control Panel' to make sure there are no traces left running from the uninstalled program.

3. Run Windows updates

Windows Updates are very important because they close up holes in the operating system that hackers could exploit.  Before running updating Windows, check to see if the firewall is on in Vista, Windows 7.  Vista and Windows 7 firewalls should be on by default. Updates won't always come at the same time so keep running Windows Update until there is no more to be downloaded. If you asked to reboot then do so.

4. Install NIS/NAV

Follow the Instructions to install NIS/NAV, when NIS/NAV is installed open up the main screen then keeping running the Live Update at the top left until no more updates come through, you may be asked to reboot, please do this.  Once your computer restarts then you are ready to go, download and install programs if you wish to.
