Hacking protection in translation subtitles

Hi. I currently use Kodi version 16.0 for viewing IPTV in Thailand. The latest version of Kodi (ver 17.1) has streaming compatibility problems . In yesterday's issue of thaitech news, an article appeared and I quote the relevant section "According to security firm Checkpoint who discovered the vulnerability, hackers are attacking users via the subtitle function (translation). The cyber attack takes place when subtitles are loaded into the video streaming service. Antivirus software typically does not flag subtitles as a threat" Is this true? Does Norton provide protection for this situation? A security patch has apparently been issued for the latest version but not earlier versions. Would appreciate any advice.
