In the Home section of Norton 360 (v24), I keep getting repeated notifications about the number of trackers following me.
Hoping to stop this persistent nagging, I clicked ‘Continue’ and then selected ‘Not Interested.’ However, instead of respecting my choice, the program redirects me to a promotional page for Norton AntiTrack. On this page, I’m only given two options:
Click ‘Try Now for Free’
Close the window with ‘X’
By selecting ‘Not Interested,’ I expect my preference to be respected, but instead, the nagging notifications continue.
I’m extremely frustrated with this incessant advertising. If I want to explore new software, I can easily go to the new Store section myself.
I’ve been a Norton customer since 1998 when I got my first PC, but this constant pestering has helped me make the decision to switch to a different product once my current subscription ends.
Yup, I hear you. I am planning on finally dropping Norton after 20 years when my current subscription ends in February 2025. The nagware with the latest update is intolerable. I turned off the special offers notifications (Settings > Notifications > Mute special offers) and I still get nagged. Norton will never learn so they will lose long-time customers.
Unlike the previous version of Norton 360 when the occasional pop-up would show stuff like this, every time I now open v24, this message is always displayed. A form of permanent advertising/scareware.
I can either click ‘X’ to close this screen, or click ‘Try Now for Free’. Clicking ‘X’ takes me out of this page, but it means my previous choice of ’ Not Interested’ is not respected as there is no additional ‘Not Interested’ option here.
I use uBlock Origin in hard mode, so I know exactly what I’m blocking and allowing. I don’t need consistently reminded about it on the home page of Norton 360. There is no need for additional advertising now there is a new Store option.
Yes, I’m covering old ground here, but I wanted to added screenshots to prepare people who are not already on v24 what to expect.
All the screenshots above match exactly my frustration.
So, you are all saying that the only solution is to drop Norton completely – there’s no way to stop the constant advertising. And, that’s what I will do.
There is no way, at least not that we Guru’s are aware of. Marketing is baked into the products on a new level, it began about 3 years ago, having progressed to the level it now is. From what I read, review and have experienced this is a global corporate business model and, its progressively led by feeding AI in the cloud. Thus, the false detections and most of the other issues we are all seeing across the spectrum. Windows is one of the biggest offenders but at least using it we can get rid of most of the annoyances. With some other products that doesn’t appear to be the case.
