I've previously been running NIS 2010 for the last year, and decided to switch to NIS 2011 since my subscription was going to expire in a few weeks. My machine is a XP Pro w/SP3. I uninstalled 2010, then ran the NRT 2 times, then installed 2011. Everything seemed to go okay, and scans appear to work well.
However, now my hard drive activity light comes on appx. every 1.5 seconds and I can hear the drive working. This goes on and on and on. I've ran full scans with NIS, Malwarebytes, SuperSntiSpyware, and Spybot S&D, and everything comes up clean. I never had this problem before with NIS 2010, only since I installed 2011. I know it must be something to do with NIS 2011, because I previously temporarily installed it last week (download) and it caused the same thing, so I removed it and went back to 2010 and the problem went away. Now, after I re-installed 2011 from the CD, same problem now. What could be causing this?

I'm running version 18.5.0.125 of NIS 2011, and my machine meets the listed requirements. I do have Spybot S&D installed, and TeaTimer also. Never had any problems with NIS 2010 with the programs that are on my machine. The first time I installed 2011 (via an automatic Norton download and message), it installed on top of 2010. This time, I removed 2010 and used a retail CD to do the install, thinking that maybe the download version had some kind of issue. However, both do exactly the same thing. I ran scan disk last time, and all was fine. Haven't ran it again since I re-installed 2011.
Suggest you look at task manager or better still Microsoft Process Explorer (which you can google and download from the techsite of microsoft). sort first by CPU. Examine the activity.
TeaTimer will interfere with NIS and could cause it to work harder and have an improper installation and an improper use of the Norton Removal Tool that you used. TeaTimer prevents any registry changes and the use of the NRT is to clean up NIS from your computer. Therefore, it probably interfered with the proper installation of it and the proper use of the NRT. If you want to use Spybot as an on demand scanner with tea timer off, that is ok.

If this might be the case, should I try disabling TeaTimer, then remove NIS 2011 using both Add/Remove Programs and then the NRT, and then re-install 2011? If so, will I have to activate it again? My copy is a 1-user 3-PC license, and would that cause me to unnecessarily use up another one of the 3 allotted usages?
Disabled TeaTimer, uninstalled NIS 2011, ran NRT, re-installed 2011, and it seemed to help significantly. I'll try re-enabling TeaTimer to see if the problem now comes back, and if it does, then I'll just leave it disabled. Thanks for the help.
Even if your computer isn't working any harder after turning Tea Timer back on, it will still be interfering with NIS 2011 or any version of Norton products. If Norton has to clean up any infection, TeaTimer will prevent that. It will also preven Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware from working correctly also. Those programs want to clean up malware from the registry and Tea Timer will prevent that. It is not a good idea to have 2 real time security programs running at the same time. It only lessens your protection instead of increasing it. Thanks.
