Have old virusdef files and want to delete them!

Help!  I have over 2+gBytes of old (2004-2006) virusdef files that I cannot delete.  I tried to delete hem when I had NAV installed but could not.  Any ideas on how to remove them will be greatly appreciated.  I searched for a forum thread on the topic but could not find one.

Thanks in advancefor your assistance.

Is there any way to remove these files without installing NAV again?  The files have eaten up too much space, and I'd have to delete/uninstall several things to load NAV.

Again, thanks in advance for your response.

From what I understand, you have currently no Symantec programs installed on your PC. If so, you can simply delete the folder that contains virus definitions. Providing that you've used an older Norton product, this folder should be located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared. Right click on VirusDefs folder, press shift from your keyboard and click delete. If you are unable to delete the folder, restart your computer, start Windows in Safe Mode (click here for more information) and try delete the folder again. If you a have Norton program installed on your PC that has a virus protection component, the program will not work correctly and you won't be protected. In this case, you can use the Norton Removal Tool to completely remove any Symantec products installed on your PC. After that you can reinstall your Norton protection software.

Thank you for your assistance: I wenr from 164 mBytes free to 11.1 gBytes free on an 18.6 gByte HD.  Unfortunately, Norton never cleaned up after itself....

Thanks, and my laptop thanks you for freeing it from its performance prison.
