You have to uninstall the " old" version before install the new. You can’t use a old firewall from an old product with a new Norton

The real question really has to be, do I need the norton personal firewall with the 2009 NAV. My version is V9.1.1.7 and is paid for until jan/09. If I remove it to install NAV 2009 will I still be protected?

Unfortunately, Jonathan, you got caught between two changes.

There is no upgrade to Norton Firewall 2006.  Norton Internet Security 2006 and onward combine AV and Firewall.  Now, since you just got Norton AV 2009, you should have qualified for Norton NIS 2009 instead (since you have licenses for both products).  If I were you I would call customer service, explain the situation and perhaps that will swap you an NIS license for the other two.  You have a perfectly good case -- maybe some of the Symantec people here can help.

To answer your question, Norton AV2009 does NOT replace the Firewall 2006 protection you will be losing, so you need some help with this issue.

SYMANTIC was excellent, they did allow me a credit for my two programs and they installed Norton Internet Security 2009. Things work good so far.

Wonderful.

Wow kudos for the Symantec team on giving you credit towards NIS 2009.
