HELP - PC security turned off! How do I turn it back on?

I just recently installed Norton 360 and it worked fine the first time, but when I turned my computer on the next day it was saying that the pc security is turned off. I can’t figure out how to switch it back on. Everytime I go to switch everything on to turn it on again it switches right back to off. I am really confused. Can anyone help? Please!

I did not have any other security system on. Which is why I got Norton 360. Basically it says that the PC security is off because of 4 reasons. When I hit the ‘fix all’ button to correct this it starts but then does not do anything. Also when I go into settings to turn all the antivirus on (somehow they are off) I change them to ON and hit ‘apply’ and then if I go back into settings they are turned off again. I thought this was meant to help me in my computer usage not make it harder. Please help!

Hi shadedalpha,

Can you please tell us which operating system you are running and which version of Norton 360 you have got? In order find out which version of Norton 360 you are running, open Norton 360, go to "Help & Support" and then to "About". Note that only Norton 360 version 3.5 is compatible with Windows 7 and is currently not available as a disc version.

On the main User Interface, move your mouse over PC Security, and then click View Details. Then let us know the features which are turned off, like Auto-Protect, SONAR advanced Protection, Smart Firewall etc.

Vineeth--

This could also be happening because of present malware on your system before you installed N360 (some of the newer ones will allow the installations but not allow the product to work properly).

If you have version 3.0 or better, please boot your system into Safe Mode (while starting the system, tap the F8 key until the Advanced Startup Options menu is displayed and select Safe Mode [ no network or command prompt ] and press ENTER).  Once the system is finished booting, double click on the N360 desktop icon and follow the prompts to run a full system scan.

Once this is finished, reboot your system into normal mode and check if the problem is fixed (or fixable) now.  If not, proceed to the next step.

Please download MalwareBytes' AntiMalware from this LINK . Choose the free version as this does not have a real time scanner that will interfere with Norton products. Install the program and update the definitions.

Once MBAM is loaded, run a full scan with it. Have the program fix / delete whatever it finds and make a log file. Please post the log file contents or attach the log file to a reply post here for review.  The Add Attachment link for posts is below the orange POST button.  Thanks.

I have norton 360 3.0 and I’m using windows vista.

I just tried turning the computer off and rebooting it to safe mode but it wouldn’t let me even open norton in safe mode. This is really frustrating. I seem to have more problems with norton then I had without it :frowning:

You cannot open the Norton window in 'Safe Mode' as this is a troubleshooting mode.

The only option you get, is to run a scan if desired, to assist you with the troubleshooting.

Can you check which features are showing warning or Red X? That may help us to provide you a solution for this.

Also, did you download, update and run MalwareBytes as recommended a few posts above?
