Help - Virus/Malware Blocking Live Update and Access to Norton's Website

I have the three user license for Norton Internet Security 2009 but hadn't found time to install it on my daughter's pc until after she hot the motherload of viruses and malware last night. After multiple attempts to install NIS, I was finally successful and it detected several viruses, etc. as did another program that I had installed. At last count the number was well over 100, with about 20 of those being trojans and viruses. However, I need to update her virus definitions and whatever has infected her computer is controlling the internet connection. It will let me start Firefox but blocks access to this website and it also blocks the updater and activation of NIS. So, I know there's nothing wrong with the internet connection as it loads Google and other pages fine. Is there a way to obtain the updated definitions via download, by email, etc?

Thanks in advance.

I suggest you to download the Norton Recovery tool and run a scan using it. Check this document Norton Recovery Tool

You can Download Virus Definitions from here: http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/index.jsp.

Instructions for Starting your Computer in Safe Mode: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam.

You might also want to try SUPERAntiSpyware as well: http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-187228.html?tag=mncol&cdlPid=559816.
