My Norton has been disabled for quite a while, but recently when I tried to do a system recover, it was not completed fully because of Norton.
I looked up how to temporarily disable it, but I can't because it's already expired. I'm confused about it affecting the system recovery, shouldn't it not affect it because it's already expired?
The system recovery I need to do is quite important, so I would really like help disabling my expired Norton Security so that the recovery can work.
AFAIK, Norton Internet Security will not affect the process of system recovery you mentioned or even system restore. But if you still have doubt, you can always uninstall it, then reinstall it back after everything is ok.
But when I did try to restore it, it said that it was incompleted because of the security system? That is why it confused me, because it was already expired...
Can I find how to uninstall it and then reinstall it here on the site?
Thank for the information you have already given me!
If it is Windows XP, to uninstall your Norton Internet Security, go to My Computer, click Add or Remove Program from the left pane, choose Norton Internet Security, click Remove/Uninstall.
If it is Windows 7, go to Computer, click Uninstall/Change A Program from the above pane, choose Norton Internet Security, click uninstall above the first entry/program name.
To reinstall it, just run the Norton Internet Security installer that you had (the latest is version 2013).
For future reference, you cannot accomplish a System Restore with Norton Tamper Protection enabled. You must first disable it as even a system rstore is seen as Windows attempting to make a change to the actual Norton product security.
That said, even by disabling Tamper Protection usually messes up Norton product as by setting the system back - you are removing certain updates, ect that are built in a sequential mannr and a remove/reinstallof Norton is required to correct what the restore messed up.
I am ot aware of Tamper Protection mpacting an expired license, but it is something for me to to try to research.
Also in regards to the total removal of NIS, you would be advised to run the Norton Removal Tool after accomplishing the Control Panel removal.
You say that your Norton subscription is expired -- that means you are totally unprotected..... it does notmean that it carries on without updating.
Unless you have a valid subscription you cannot reinstall Norton .... unless you have a spare copy you purchased already.
There are some very good prices from reputable well known sources on the Internet which can save you a lot compared with purchasing or renewing from Norton although the latter is often more convenient so let us know if we can help you on this.
Certainly the first thing to do is to uninstall and clean up with the Norton Removal Tool but after that do not go on the internet without a working security system installed.
