High CPU usage by ns.exe

I'm running Windows 10 on a Toshiba laptop with Norton IS Deluxe 22.7.0.76 and since about the last week or two Task Manager indicates that NS.EXE is using 95%+ of the CPU at all times - even when there is nothing running. This catches my attention because I've seen in the past that CPU use normally hovers at 5 to 20 % at the very most. I have run live update and a full system scan with no dificulty - no hang ups or anything. I've also rebooted the laptop several times and no change at all. All suggestions are welcomed.
