As a last resort I am now trying to get help from you.
I have Norton with latest virus definitions. I run XP with SP3. Norton is my security.
I found that I use about 1.4 gigs of traffic when browsing internet in 2 hours. This is NOT normal. I have scanned my computor. Found no viruses.
Can anybody PLEASE point me in a direction to try and find what is using up all my broadband. Something is downloading a lot of traffic while I browse internet. I did not download any files during this time. Could it be that I have some trojan/virus that Norton does not pick up and if so what can I use to scan my computor that could result in this abnormal high traffic.
If you are having the latest Norton 2009 program, there are chances for Pulse Updates or Automatic LiveUpdate working in the background. Then you need to check whether you have set the Windows Updates to Automatic. You can find that information from the Windows Security Center in Control Panel. Also, check in Add/Remove Programs whether it has downloaded/installed any new Windows Updates recently.
There is a small, free utility called NetLimiter 2 Monitor that may help. You can find it at NetLimiter.com.
I have limited experience with this item but it passes both Norton and MalwareBytes scans, and it's easy to use. Unlike many traffic monitoring programs, it gives straightforward readouts of what is using your bandwidth.
