Hello - I'm kind of stumped as to what happens here.
What happens if somehow one or several of the files or folders in one of my backup sets were unintentionally deleted on my computer either accidentally by myself or say by a virus? If Norton updates files in a backup set daily to reflect changes made to that file (eg updating a Word file for text changes), if a file is deleted on the computer, is it deleted in the Norton backup set in the cloud instantly as well? Does anybody know how this is handled?
When you are ready to delete files from your online storage, you can use the information in the link in bjm_'s post above for Manage backup files on Norton Backup Drive - https://support.norton.com/sp/en/ca/home/current/solutions/v19828933
Oh I was just curious in general how most file deletions in backups are handled, compared to 'syncing'. Basically comparing how Norton handles backups vs. how say OneDrive handles syncing all my music.
If say after a year I had 100 files in my Documents folder (that's flagged for backup) that I've deleted throughout that time period, they would remain forever in the Norton cloud taking up space? Is there a way at the time when I locally delete one to have Norton ask me if I wanted the copy of it deleted from the cloud as well? I know you can exclude folders or files from the backup set, but if it's already deleted locally, there will be nothing to select to exclude from said backup set and the file will remain in the cloud?
Not a big deal that it works this way since really I'm not deleting a lot of files and you obviously want the security of the files remaining persistent to protect against loss or accidental deletion, but I could see it being bothersome if you were close to maxing out your cloud space allotment and for whatever reason you have lots of files that get deleted on a regular basis.
What detail are you looking for? If a file is deleted on your computer for whatever reason, it will still be in the backup for you to restore if needed?
[...] if a file is deleted on the computer, is it deleted in the Norton backup set in the cloud instantly as well?
No.....a file deleted on your machine is not also deleted in the backup.
If a file deleted on your machine were also deleted in the backup ... defeats the purpose of having a backup.
