~ are you referring to Norton Identity Lock?

  • Identity Lock make it easy to lock and unlock your credit file with a single click here
  • Help protect against identity theft using Identity Lock here

=========================================

AI Mode
To use Norton Identity Lock, you must have a Norton plan that includes the LifeLock Identity Theft Protection feature (e.g., LifeLock Advantage tier or higher). The primary function is to lock and unlock your TransUnion credit file with a single click through the My Norton portal.

Setup Instructions

  1. Activate Identity Theft Protection:
  • Open your Norton product or go to my.norton.com and sign in.
  • In the My Norton dashboard, locate the Identity Theft Protection or LifeLock section and click Set Up or Activate.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to sign in with your Norton account credentials and set up your LifeLock member portal access.
  1. Verify Your Information:
  • In the Identity Theft Protection dashboard, navigate to the Monitored Info tab.
  • Add or verify personal information you want monitored, such as your Social Security Number, birthdate, address, phone numbers, and email addresses.
  1. Set Up Alerts and Passcode:
  • In the Contact Preferences section, add your preferred method for receiving alerts (email, text, or automated call).
  • Create a Verbal Passcode. This is used to authenticate your identity when speaking to a LifeLock agent.

Using Identity Lock
Once set up, you can manage your credit lock status within the My Norton portal or the LifeLock app:

  • Lock Your Credit: With a single click, you can lock your TransUnion credit file. This helps block new creditors from accessing it, which in turn helps prevent identity thieves from opening new accounts in your name.
  • Unlock Your Credit: When you need to apply for new credit, a lo an, or a new phone service, you can easily unlock your credit file with a single click to allow a legitimate credit inquiry.
  • Notifications: The system will alert you if an attempt is made to access your locked credit file or open a fraudulent account.

Note:

  • Identity Lock only covers your TransUnion credit file. For enhanced protection, you may consider placing a security freeze with the other two major credit bureaus (Experian and Equifax).
  • Locking your credit file does not affect your credit score.
  • If you cancel or downgrade your eligible subscription, your locked credit file will automatically be unlocked.

The Identity Lock feature is included in the higher tiers of Norton’s identity theft protection plans, specifically the LifeLock Advantage plans and above.

The plans that offer Identity Lock (which provides a single-click lock/unlock of your TransUnion credit file and a Payday Lo an Lock) are:

  • Norton 360 with LifeLock Advantage
  • Norton 360 with LifeLock Ultimate Plus
  • LifeLock Advantage (standalone plan)
  • LifeLock Ultimate Plus (standalone plan)

The entry-level plan, Norton 360 with LifeLock Select (or standalone LifeLock Standard), does not include the Identity Lock feature, though it does offer one-bureau credit monitoring and identity restoration services.

Norton Identity Lock offers the convenience of instant, app-based control but only for one bureau. A full credit freeze requires more initial effort (contacting all three bureaus) but provides comprehensive, legally-backed protection across all major reports.

  • Cost and Service: Identity Lock is a feature of a paid subscription, whereas credit freezes are a free, federally mandated right.
  • Norton’s Recommendation: Norton recommends that users supplement their Identity Lock feature with a standard security freeze at Experian and Equifax to ensure complete protection.

Both options help prevent new credit accounts from being opened fraudulently but neither prevents misuse of your existing accounts, so monitoring existing statements remains important.
