How did the following get past Norton Security 360?
System: Windows 10, Microsoft Edge, Norton 360, newish Dell Inspiron,
Website: s3.ap.southeast-1.amazonaws.com/aus-01/alert.html?browser=Chrome... ... ... yada yada yada.
The warning plastered on the front of my screen (see image), along with an audible tone, was:
"This site says...
Chrome browser has detected a new virus.
WARNING! TROJAN (TRJ.Dealware.stealth) HAS BEEN INFECTED INTO YOUR COMPUTER.
You must call this free number 1-800-621-596 now.
The new trojan (TRJ.Dealware.stealth) cannot be detected by current virus software. Failure to immediately call the number provided will result in a computer failure.

So I closed the browser using Task Manager (via ctrl+alt+del). When I tried to open the Microsoft Edge browser again, it reopened all my previous web pages including the suspect page. Audible warning ensued as dig warning panel. SO I ran Norton 360 and did a quick scan. All OK, with tracking cookies removes. Reopened my M-Edge browser and same problem.
Phoned Norton support. Took an hour for a service technician, Glesilda Agustin, to clean the crap out of my PC via remote access. She did a very good job, too, no complaints at all about her efficiency and personable manner. But totally puzzled why I got the virus, anyway.
