Thanks for your response - I’ll give it a try and let you know how it goes.
NIS sent me automatic updates, then when I booted up the next time, asked me if I wanted to permit iexplore.exe to access the internet, I said no. Now I’m blocked from the internet altogether. I found the ‘block’ in the Log Viewer: User has created a rule to ‘block’ communications. However, I cannot find it in my Internet Explorer. How do I change my response to allow iexplore.exe?
Hi:
I have much the same problem except I told my version, Norton Antivirus 2008, to NOT block a bad version of svchost.exe. How do I change it back to block??
[note from moderator: This poster has also posted here about this issue, please reply to this post in that thread rather than here to avoid confusing replies.]
Hi, you may wish to go through the following steps to adjust the access rights of MSIE (Iexplore.exe) via NIS:
1. Start NIS (I assume that it is NIS 2008 we're discussing here)
2. On the left side of the NIS 2008 window, there are a few links to click on. Click on the one that says 'Options' and a sub-menu appears. Click on 'Norton Internet Security'
3. After which, another NIS 2008 window pops up. This is the window where all the NIS 2008 settings can be changed. In this case, we only need to change the firewall settings.
4. On the new window, click on Personal Firewall >> Program Control. Use the scroll bar to locate the program 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' and then change the 'Access' rights from 'Block' to 'Allow'.
5. After changing the access rights, click on the 'Apply' button and close the settings window.
Microsoft IE shouldn't be blocked from accessing the Internet now.
