How do I get NIS Safe search back on my browser

My NIS Safe Search has come up missing on my browser. I did a search for safe search and looked at all the posts but didn't see anything that gave me a clue as to how to get it back.

One post said to uninstall NIS and reinstall. That seem's to me to be a lot of work.

I looked under settings and nothing there. I right click on the Norton tool bar and the drop down menu does not show NIS safe search.

Is there anything I can do, short of uninstalling/reinstalling NIS?

If not, I'll just use Google (not my desire).

Thanks for any insight

Hi yank.

Sorry for omitting that info.

Version is 21.1.0.18

I'm using IE 11, Ver 11, Win 7 64-bit.

I had the safe search directly under the Norton tool bar before I departed overseas for a funeral and when I came back and "fired-up" my computer, it isn't there.

The drop-down menu only shows Menu, Favorites, Command, Status, Bing, Norton, and Google bars with Lock the tool bars and Show tabs on a separate row.

If you need additional info, please advise

Thanks for your quick response

The setting is in the identity safe program now.

Thanks to peterweb for the info and screenshot:

Click on the Vault is Open link on the Toolbar. Then click on the gear icon at the bottom of the Identity Safe window. Be sure Enable Norton Safe Search is checked.

Thanks DaveH.

Follwed your instructions. According to the Settings, everything is checked. (See atch)

Still no safe search

Any other ideas?

Not a real big issue other than I prefer to use safe search but can live with Google

I actually lost safe seach too and had to regenerate a search provider addon for it.

The Norton seach bar is actually a second search bar that I didn't like in the first place because IE already has on on the top right.

When you click the google icon or go to: Tools > Manage Addons > Search Providers, do you see an option for Norton Safe Search or is that missing too?

Dave

Thanks DaveH

IE Tools - yep. No NIS in search providers (add ons)

Nothing on Google - just the box to enter the item(s) to search for

I did this a few times with no problems, even with a Windows 8.1 system with IE11

Go here:

http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/searchbuilder.asp

In the first box put this:

http://nortonsafe.search.ask.com/web?q=TEST

The capital TEST is necessary, it replaces that word with some other data.

In the second box put whatever you want it called I used Norton Safe Search

Then click the install button.

Then go into" IE> tools > Manage addons > seach providers

change the default from google to Norton safe search.

It should work fine for you

If for some reason you want the icon, only do the following if your familar with the registry and know the risks.

Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes

Below you will see 2 large numbered keys, one for safe serch and one for google

When you select one or the other, you should recogognize the one for safe search from the name and address.

On the right double click "FavIconURL" and change the data to: http://www.ask.com/favicon_norton_v1.ico

Thanks DaveH

Used your link to get NIS safe searcj\h.

Went to Tools/Search providers.

NIS Safe Search is there but not available. (see atch)

Maybe I should do a restart. I'll try that and see what happens.

Looks like we might be chasing the "elusive dream".

Appreciate your help and time.

Thats odd, it works fine for me.

Where your screenshot says "Not Availible" for me thats search suggestions and top results.

Mine says that too and I'm not sure those were ever availible.

Here is a tablet running Windows 8.1 pro and IE 11

It's pretty new and I have never installed a Norton product yet.

ie11search.jPG

You can see that the address bar is using Norton Safe Search now by default, search results (In this case "Norton") go through Norton Safe SEarch and I even get the Norton Safe Web ratings next to the search results.

Consider this closed.

Apparently it isn't possible w/out uninstalling/reinstallling NIS.

I went to support and they did a remote on my computer with no sucess. Spent about 30 mins with agent going everywhere checking this and that, even deleting all my history, cookies, etc. and resetting IE to default.

Nothing.

Safe search is shown in the Tools/Search providers but default/enable greyed out.

Thanks to all that responded and your time.
