I've had problems with this for years.
Settings > Items to Exclude from Scans :
c:\Program Files\Eudora\
Settings > Items to Exclude from Auto Protect and SONAR:
c:\Program Files\Eudora\
Yet it keeps scanning stuff in there, and often DESTROYS my .mbx mailbox files (which I keep a lot of important information in!)

The exclude boxes do absolutely nothing.
So what am I doing wrong?

Check the path to the Eudora mail folders. From what I have seen online (I don't use Eudora), the folders are probably not located in C:\Program Files\Eudora. See the following:

Thanks, but all my Eudora files are in the main Eudora\ folder. Eudora gives the option of using the userpath to save files, or just stick everything in subfolders in the Eudora folder. I use the latter as it's easiest for backing up and re-installing. You just copy or archive the entire Eudora\ folder and subdirectories.
Anyway... I have the 'include subdirectories' box checked in Norton exclusions. It does NOT work. I've had this problem for years, and have posted numerous msgs about it, so I'm guessing it's a major bug that is just unfixable (??)
I need to do a full system scan, but had really hoped to get a solution to this problem before I do, as Norton will end up wiping out half my Eudora files (it especially attacks my .mbx mailbox files). And I have about 12 different mailboxes containing everything from customer receipts to shipping addresses, etc. VERY important stuff to me.
I just can't figure out how to get Norton to just NOT LOOK AT ALL at anything inside the Eudora folder. It absolutely refuses to. And this has happened over the course of about 5 years and 3 different PCs! (and at least 2 different versions of Windows: XP and Win7)

The best thing to do would be to open the Norton scan exclusions and browse to each specific mailbox folder you want to exclude. Do this for "Items to exclude from scans" and "Items to exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence detection." I'm certain you will have better success if you specify the exact files to exclude. I believe that, like Thunderbird, Eudora keeps all messages in each folder as a single file - so it is important to exclude these from scans to prevent possible quarantining of an entire mail folder or corrupting its contents.

Yes Eudora does put all the .mbx mailbox files in the main Eudora\ folder.
So, does the adding a folder to the exclude settings not work then? I figured that since it allows you to select a folder, and even has a checkbox for "include subfolders", that that was the way to exlude items. (??) ... and thought selecting individual files was if you wanted that folder scanned except for JUST a file or two. (??)
Theoretically, if you exclude C:\Program Files\Eudora and all subfolders, the mailbox folders in there should not be scanned. However, since it does not seem to be working that way, your best option is to specifically exclude each mailbox folder. This is a better way to do it anyway, because it is only the mailbox folders that you do not want to scan - the rest of the Eudora files really should be scanned.
