How do I report a dangerous website?

Hello,

The website greyfoxstates.com is supposed to be the developer of the neighborhood I live in.  When I try to go there, I am immediately redirected to a different website, and a high severity intrusion is detected by Norton 360.

Norton Safe Search lists this web site as safe.  What do I need to do to report it so that it is listed as dangerous?

Thanks,

D Nelson

Hi dn0460,

In your browser, click on "Norton" of the Norton toolbar, then click on "Report Site" on the drop-down menu. You will have to go to the affected website in order to use this function.

Another option is to report the website over here:

Also, please do not post links to malicious websites. I will ask a moderator to remove it - thanks for your understanding :-)

Hello dn0460,

Before reporting this site as dangerous, I would suggest that you clear your browser cache and run a complete scan of your system.

I am able to navigate to and enter "greyfoxestates" with out any problems or redirects.  I do not see any problems with the site.

Do you notice any suspicious behavior when visiting other sites?

Hi dn0460,

Are you typing or pasting the site name into your browser's address bar or are you going there by clicking a link on another page, such as a Google results page?

Based on another reply, I have discovered that i can go to the site successfully by entering the url directly.  SO the problem does not appear to be on the site itself.  However, if I attempt to go to this site from any search engine (I've tried Bing, Google, and Norton Safe Search/Ask), I am still redirected and I get attacked.  I will pursue this line of troubleshooting with the person who suggested I try that.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Dan

You are correct, Dan.

The site itself is safe, but I can reproduce the attack when directly clicking on the site link through a search query.

Hi dn0460,

This is a problem with the site itself.  This redirection if you go to the site via a link is typical of an .htaccess file hack on the website's server.  You should notify the site owner that they need to check their .htaccess file and remove the bad code that has been inserted.  Steps should then be taken, such as changing the password,  to increase security so the file is not hacked again.  This type of attack was discussed in a thread here recently.  More information on this can be found here:

EDIT:  Replaced previous link with a new link to a simpler explanation of .htaccess attacks.
