How do you clone Windows 7 Hard Drive with Ghost 15?

I purchased Ghost 15 to clone / copy my Win 7 Pro to a larger hdd. I tried copying the Win 7 100 MB System partition and then the data partition. I did not copy the MBR onto the data partition, because it is on the 100 MB partition. The result was Windows 7 would not boot. After several attempts with Ghost 15, I gave up and used Acronis WD Edition which successfully cloned the drive and booted.  How do you copy a HDD with Ghost 15? I have successfully cloned HDD with previous versions of Ghost.

Were you using Ghost 15 SP1? Did you have partitions on the new HD?

 

The MBR is not in any partition. It is backed up whenever any partition is imaged. Ghost regards LBA-0 to LBA-62 as the MBR. Most folks regard this as the First Track.

I purchased a retail Ghost 15 and ran Live Updates. I do not know if it was SP1. I meant I selected the option to copy the MBR when I copied the System partition. Basically, I followed the instructions described in your hyperlink. But the HDD would not boot until I ran Win 7 Setup in Repair Mode. I ran Disk Manager on the cloned HDD. I found the SFP, data partition and a 2 MB unallocated partition. At one point, I had a hard drive which locked up my PC. I had to boot Win 7 without the drive; run Disk Manager; reconnect the drive; refresh hardware; and delete the volume; before I could use the HDD. At this point, I gave up and used Acronis WD Edition which was free. Because I have Ghost 15 and spent the bucks, I would like to know how to clone or copy Win 7 to a larger HDD.

I'm not sure what you mean here. Did you remove the old HD after Copy Drive had completed? You shouldn't have the old HD present during the first boot from the new HD.

 

I've performed dozens of Copy Drives with Ghost 15 SP1. No failures using the Options mentioned in that web page.

There were no partitions on the new drive and it was not formatted.

 

I do not know if Ghost 15 was SP1 after the Live Update. I removed Ghost 15 from my PC, so I cannot check the version after the Live Update.

 

I removed the original HDD and set the new larger cloned HDD as a Master on all reboots.  

 

After I copied the HDD with Ghost 15, the new larger drive had 3 partitions: SFP, data, and 2 MB unallocated.

 

After I copied the HDD with Acronis, the new larger drive matched the original except the data partition was larger and it booted without running Win 7 Setup Repair.

 

I will try Ghost again on my next HDD clone which will be a Seagate HDD.

OK. Thanks for that. If you did Live Update you should have SP1. It is 15.0.1.36526

 

You are on the right track. Copy into unallocated space, one partition at a time. Remove the old HD.

 

The pre SP1 Ghost 15 had problems. Both HDs needed repairs after Copy Drive but it has been fixed.

Thank you for the assistance. When I re-install Ghost 15, I will verify that I have SP1 version. From the sounds of your posts, I think I may have used pre-SP1.
