How do you disable the "Norton Account" popup harassment window?

I realize that Symantec wants you to buy future subscriptions from them rather than your local retailer, but now that I've entered my key, how do I disable the Norton Account popup? I don't want to return this program but I will if I can't disable the harassment popup.

Hi seplachaptenna,

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to disable the Norton Account popup. The best way is to create a Norton Account. There are many benefits to creating an account. It will save your product key and track your subscriptions.

Thank you for the quick response maki.  I'm a customer who is smart enough to know that norton account harassment is not needed for my antivirus protection, but it IS needed to funneling users into the symantec online store and prevent reselling of software.  I'm not interested in those things, so I will regretfully go somewhere else for my antivirus service.

Please forward the message along that a disappointed customer requests the ability to disable the norton account harassment window.

Hi seplachaptenna,

Welcome to the community!

We are in the process of gathering requirements for the future NAV/NIS products. LanaK has inititated a suggestion box thread where you can post your suggestions as well.

Just for further clarification of this matter,  if you get a key (renewal) from local reseller and enter the info in the program, how long would it take to have the system recognize that the program has been renewed (thus stopping the notifications)?  Are you saying that the notifications only stop if we go through the Symantec online store directly?  Would the program (NIS2009 / NAV2009 / etc.) see that you entered a key and now have 350 days of subscription (for example) but because you did it through a reseller, you would still get the reminder to renew?

Just trying to get this straight in my mind.  Thanks for the help.

I think it was the requirement to open a Norton account that annoyed the poster.  There have been a few complaints of this nature.

Hi seplachaptenna,

I understand your annoyance with Norton Account. Before you decide to switch to another service, i'd like to help a bit more.

You are right in that you do not need a Norton Account to use the product. Are you unable to close the window? Also, which version do you have? In our latest version, we have reduced the number of times it will pop up.

Hope that you will reconsider.

Seplachaptena is right. I agree that Norton Account popup is really annoying. Each time I download a trial version for my clients, they always complain to me about this problem. I would love to see this improvement in the future.

I personally think that you should give Symantec another chance before switching to another antivirus vendor. Before I switch to Norton, I was using a well known antivirus vendor for 5 years. Unfortunately, my old antivirus vendor failed to protect my brand new PC from malicious attacks [the solution: reformatting my hard-drive]. After that incident, I brought Norton IS 2009 and install it on my laptop. From that point on, Norton have blocked several malicious attacks from harming my computer. You should know and understand that there is no perfect antivirus suite on the market.

With new improvement features in the furture products, Norton provides one step ahead to protect computer users [like you and I] from malicious online attacks.
