How do you resume a product download?

Thanks Yank for jumping in.

Can you continue to help please since it's now beyond me and my knowledge of updating.

Ok I installed it from the disc but I'm in the same boat I was before. The Live Update is 151.72 MB. I doubt I can stay connected that long. Is there anyway to check for certain updates seperatley?

Exactly --- it's not as old as 2008 but it needs nearly a year of updating. That's why I was pushing for you to find a way to download a more uptodate file using someone elses higher speed connection.

I'll have to leave it up to you to see if you can find one; if you do then please get a link to the most recent NAV file from one of the gurus or see if one of them has an alternative idea.

Hi Breaker and Hugh,

I went back and verified that the "old Liveupdate" is in fact pre 2009 Norton Products, so if Breaker is running the 2008 version of NAV, then it has the old separate LiveUpdate installed and that does in fact not work with any version 2009 or more recent.  That would explain why possibly their NAV has nopt been updated to a later version via LU.

The continuation factor, i.e. icon not on desktop and download not picking up where it left off is however confusing if Breaker is using a newer than 2009 version for the download.

Regardless since we were asked for more ideas:

It appears that now Breaker has gotten NAV installed from disc.  Breaker can you please tell us which version is installed?  From main page of Nav, select Support and then About.  I am thinking that if NAV as installed is more recent than 2008 now, that the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool  (which is only 5.96MB) may work to get Breaker to the latest version and then they would only have a more normal size LiveUpdate download to catch up on the defs, etc.

Thanks Yank,

Although the tool is small would it not still involve downloading the usual installation file that you would get from MyNortonAccount or from one of the download links?

Depending what version he is at now -- glad you asked -- perhaps he can find a internet cafe or hotspot where he can download the updates without too great a risk.

BTW the download I was thinking of switching Breaker too but couldn't remember the name is the Smart Definitions which on NIS is a setting in Updates and only downloads the most important. The link is to the Help description on it but is from NIS.

Yes, Hugh it would download the installation file - but it would not download the Installer as it sounds that Breaker hs been trying to do in the past.

I still wonder what would happen if they ran LiveUpdate and see how much it would download - since the program is installed.  It seems if it quit downkloading and installing - it would get smoe of it and start with what was missed - via LiveUpdate since NAV is installed.

True ... I guess <g> If by Installer you refer to the Download Manager ....

But I've had a 100MB Norton update recently when I was catching up on one of the OS's I don't use that often.

Ok, I finished. Everything is up to date now. I still need to merge my old account with my new one. I'll do that tomorrow.

It took two tries. I got most of it on the first try. For the second time I had around 6MB remaining.

My version is 20.4.0.40.

How do you check your history on this version? Also when I was trying to download it, it put a few things on my computer. Is there any special way I should get rid of them? They are NAVDownloader, Norton Download Manager, and Norton Installation Files.

I just got error 3048,3. I don't know what to do now. Some people say ignore, some say restart your computer. Some say run Power Eraser and some say reinstall the whole product. Does anybody have any idea what I should do?

Hi Breaker,

In regards  Error 3048,3 - did you only receive it once?  It concerns unable to install updates, so since you said you needed to tries to receive all the updates that couldhave trigered it.  Are you getting it every time you run LiveUpdate?  If you only received it one time I would wait and see if it reoccurs and if not, donot worry about it. If it does reoccur -let us know.

In regards to the files you asked about - I would suggest leaving them (they do not hut anything) and may prove useful if problems occur in the future.

History - click on Advance > under Computer Protection > select History.

Ok thanks. So far it was only the once and it was right after failed updates. And Ive been able to run Live Update without it happening.

Ok, I have one more question and it's a really lame one. How do I make sure I entered my product key? I'm pretty sure that I had to enter it during installation but I can't remember for sure and I don't want to lose service. Sorry if I'm asking to many questions.

Check on the main User Inerface for NAV near the bottom for a note of Subscription days remaining. If you have about 365 remaining, you did enter the new key.

If you only have 15 or 30 days, you are on the trial version that has not had the key entered yet.

if you have about 120 days, you have activated with the old subscription. You can hold onto the new key until you have one or two days remaining on your subscription and then enter the key to renew.

Ok, thanks. I entered it then because it's over 360 some. Ok, thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. I appreciate it greatly.
