I keep getting a "Registration Required" dialog box in the lower right corner of the screen. I do not intend to register. Why? Because I don't feel like it. I've used NIS for years and have never registered--nor should it be necessary. You want users to register so you can spam them with product emails. I'm not interested. This dialog has appeared twice since I updated to NIS 2012. How often is it going to appear? Because if I see it again, I'll go with Kaspersky or some other product.
Hi
Welcome to the Norton Forum. You'll not receive any spams by registering, but you might miss out some rare product discounts if your norton product is not registered. Also if unfortunately you lost your product key and wants to install/Reinstall, without a Norton Account we won't be able to pull up your records to give you the product key. People cannot keep their product key in mind, so tying it with the personal email will make it easy for us and also for you.
Please go ahead and register your norton product. After registering with your email address, if you don't want any info through emal please go here and Unsubscribe.

ferenezz: I do receive NIS updates.
subash: I'm not sure you understood my post.
- I have not registered
- AND
- I get dialog boxes telling me to register.
One is a small one in the lower right corner of the screen that seems to appear once a week or so. The other is a large box in the center of the screen that appears whenever I open the NIS control panel.
This is just the usual corporate arrogance. "You don't HAVE to register, but we'll snipe at you and annoy you with our messages until you submit. Resistance is futile!"
I didn't buy this product to have Norton block my work with dialog boxes telling me to register. If it's optional, I don't want to do it and I don't want to be hassled about it.
Is there a way to prevent them from appearing? Because if not, I'll find another security app.
EDIT: Your board formatting also needs some work. Everything above is in bold and can't be changed to regular.
If you don't want to register with your email address and you don't want to get another free email address to use.
Then put in a fake address.
make up a password while your at it: password
edit- It's not "registration" like your thinking. It's only registering the key to a norton account.
It's not registering the software to "you" because it does not require any personal information because there is no actual verification.

As Dave indicates there can be a difference between Registration and in this case recording your KEY and Norton details in a MyNortonAccount.
I go way back and I'm used to those post cards to Register my purchase that fed the marketing department and never filled them in unless I saw a benefit to me by doing so.
But I certainly don't mind recording essential data about my software that, in the case of Norton, greatly simplifies reinstallation and dealing with problems if I run into the "exceeded number of permitted activations" that can happen.
Norton does have controls in the software to turn of some kinds of nagging so I'd suggest you let it make the MyNortonAccount and learn here how to turn off any reminders you may want.
