...i did, as you mentioned. I uninstalled and reinstalled CrystalDisk Info, deleted all connected folders and the problem has gone.

Note: I'm not familiar with Crystal Disk.
as test: fresh download/install.
My Norton 360 was silent.
My Norton 360 - Data Protector - was silent.
Just a guess. Maybe, your update process created .tmp file/s. Maybe, Data Protector objects to the files (temporary files) created by the update process?
Note: I've needed to turn Data Protector off to run trusted installers. Just me.
