How to get VPN working with multiple users on a MacBook using Norton 360

I haven't been able to get Norton 360 to behave properly with 2 users on a MacBook. Most notable is that the VPN is only available to the user that was active during the installation. I have gone through numerous uninstall/reinstall cycles and can still only get the VPN functionality for a single user. Norton support stated that I needed to use 2 licenses to make it work. I won't bother writing what my response was to that ridiculous support solution.

Regarding the poor behavior, the MyNorton dashboard fails to display all of the services included when switching back and forth between users. For example, the dashboard may only show device security and password manager when returning from then second user. However, the VPN option is still available from the Mac OS menu bar. It is just inconsistent when switching.

Some background info: The same product works fine on my Windows laptop with multiple users. I can turn on the VPN under either user and have it set the IP for both. The MacBook issue is the same on my older Intel based unit running Big Sur and my new M2 running Sonoma.

Wanted to make sure you know that I am not a MAC user but trying to assist nevertheless. The MAC boards are seriously neglected. Is this part of how you are setting up MAC for VPN use?

SA

Hi SA,

I have tried different options regarding administrator and standard user. I have the same results when both users have admin rights as when only a single user has admin rights. I also have tried having only a single users signed on and both users signed on. Always the same result. Only the active user during the initial installation has VPN functionality.

I did get the MyNorton dashboard to work a little better. Only 1 users can be signed in. Although, one user still sees 6 services available and the other sees only 5 (no VPN). As soon as I have 2 users logged in the dashboard issues begin. Sometimes only showing 3 services for one user and 2 for the other. It is not often that I have multiple users logged on simultaneously. However, I don't think that I should just accept the fact that Norton 360 only works properly with a single users at any given time. Although, I can't even get it to work properly for a single user!

I was considering just purchasing a higher quality VPN service to work with Norton 360. Unfortunately, I can't even get the other 5 services working for 2 users. About ready to tap out on Norton for Mac.

Hello DL1. Do both users have admin rights on the machine? And only one user logged in at any time?
