Hi,

yes you can do it manuall as well.

Here are the steps:

1. Open your VHD file, and go to the C:\ProgramData\Norton\{various_numbers}\NIS-version\IdentitySafeDataStore\various numbers\  (on XP it is in C:\doc and set\all users\application data\Norton...)

2. From this folder extract IDDStore.dat and IDDStore_bak.dat to the new HDD

3. Close the VHD file

4. Open your Norton product, and go to Settings

5. Create new Identity Safe profile

6. Log ogg from IS

7. Under Settings ->Miscellaneous settings find Norton Product's Tamper Protection on the list, and turn off

8. Set the time duration to 15 minutes

9. Open the same folder as above in the new HDD and overwrite the files in it with the ones you had on the VHD

10. Turn Tamper protection back

11. Log into Identity Safe

12. Test logins

13. Do a backup of the Identity Safe data

Dear,

I've followed your instruction step by step but I can't open my identity safe profile

The original installation was on windows vista home

The actual one on a new pc is on windows 7 professional

due the fact that the previous account name was marcello and the actual one is marcelo, I've try to create the new profile with both the names.

Everytime I've used the original password.

Thanks in advance, Marco.

Hi,

can you please tell us the exact version of your Norton product?
1. Open the main window
2. Click on Help & Support -> About menu
3. On the About window find the version number (it will look like this: 5.0.0.125)

Also, did you installed Windows 7 Service Pack 1 on the machine?

Thanks!

Hi marcoleo

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 should be available to you via your Windows Update service on your PC. You don't have to install it if you do not wish to do so.

I will request a moderator move this thread to the Norton 360 forum. A link will be left for you to find your post.

thank you so much I shall wait for the new link

You can check the Service Pack 1 here manually: start menu -> Control Panel -> Windows Update, here just click on check for updates, SP1 should be there for you.

After updating with SP1, I would recommend you to update to Norton 360 version 5.0. It is a totally free update, here are the steps you should do:

1. If you use the feature, please backup your Identity Safe data (Settings -> Identity Protection -> Backup)
2. Download latest Norton 360 installer:
- www.norton.com/n360s_5 Standard with 2GB Online Storage
- www.norton.com/n360p_5 Premier with 25GB Online Storage
- www.norton.com/n360sne_5 Standard Netbook Edition with 2GB Online Storage
- www.norton.com/n360pne_5 Premier Netbook Edition with 25GB Online Storage
- for other languages than English please go to the Norton Update Center: www.norton.com/nuc
3. Download Norton Removal Tool: www.norton.com/nrt
4. Disconnect from internet
5. Remove the old Norton 360 version from Start Menu or from Control Panel -> Add or Remove programs
6. Reboot
7. Run the Norton Removal Tool, reboot (repeat it 2-3 times)
8. Install Norton 360 version 5 with the downloaded installer
9. Reconnect to the internet
10. Activate Norton 360 version 5 with the same key you have for the older version
11. Run Live Update until you get no new updates
12. Restore your Identity Safe data (Settings ->Identity Protection -> Restore)

You can check how the Norton Removal Tool works in this video.

dear papauz,

the service pack is already installed.

the problem is now to import the information of identity data safe from the notebook that is broken, I can't start windows on it so I can't do the the step 1 as you describe.

The only thing that I can do is to physical copy the files IDDStore.dat of the previous installation connecting the disk of the old notebook trought an usb adapter.

I will try now to update my norton 360 installation because I'm not sure if I've make any update on the old notebook, there is a way looking in the directory and discover which version was?

Thanks, Marco.

Hi Marco,

if you can get the IDDStore.dat file from the old machine, that is perfectly good as well. If you got it, just install version 5 on the new machine, and restore the IDDStore.bat and the IDDStore_bak.dat files as suggested in the 2nd post of this thread.
