How to Open Ports

I have Norton Security Suite 5 provided by Comcast.  I am trying to get iTunes Wi-Fi sync to work with my network, and Apple suggested that I make sure TCP ports 123 and 3689, as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353 are open.  I played around with the settings in Norton, but nothing seems to make a difference.  Perhaps I am performing the task incorrectly.  Can anyone provide me with info on how to open these ports or an outline for doing so?  Note Apple didn't mention whether the port openings must be inbound or outbound, but I imagine inbound.  Note also that the computer that iTunes is installed on is the same computer in my network that has Norton (provided by Comcast) on it.

Thanks!

Hi,

please try this out:

1. Open Norton 360

2. Click on Settings
3. Go to Firewall Settings -> Program Rules tab
4. Find iTunes on the list

5.Click on the iTunes line and click on Modify, a new window will open

6. Click on Add

7. In the Add Rule wizard, select the Allow option, and then click Next
8. Select the to and from connection, and then click Next
9. Select Any computers, and then click Next
10. Select the protocols and ports that the rule should allow
11. If you want the logs for this rule to be saved, check Create an event log entry, and then click Next.
12. In the "What do you want to call this rule?" box, type a name for the rule, and then click Next
13. Review the new rule settings, and if they are correct, click Finish
14. Click Move Up to move the rule to top, and make it a higher priority
15. Click OK / Apply and close Settings.

Let us know the results.

Thank you for the very clear directions; I really appreciate it.  I followed the steps, but even after restart, I still could not sync with iTunes over WiFi.  From the Apple message boards, this is a very common problem experienced by numerous people, likely attributed to a mix of buggy software from Apple and router settings (a network engineer has been posting to the Apple board, and even he can't get the silly thing to work, which indicates it's more of an iTunes software problem than router issue).

Anyway, I just wanted to try opening the specific ports Apple recommends.  When I couldn't get Wi-Fi sync to work, I reverted back to Allow for the iTunes entry, which should open the necessary ports.

Thanks again.

Did you try what I suggested on your other post?
